DISTANCE & SPEED ALERT (DSA)

id151000004600

Outline

•  The distance & speed alert (DSA) is a system that calculates the distance between the vehicle ahead and the detecting vehicle, displays an alert on the multi-information display, and suppresses the acceleration by the driver's accelerator operation.
Warning
•  The distance & speed alert (DSA) notifies the driver that the distance to the vehicle ahead is dangerously close and it advices the driver on safe driving. The system is not a function which maintains distance between vehicles to avoid a collision with the vehicle ahead.
•  The distance & speed alert (DSA) may not operate normally under the following conditions.
―  Visibility is reduced due to a vehicle ahead casting off water, snow, or sand.
―  Heavy cargo is loaded in the luggage compartment or on the rear seat.
―  Ice, snow or dirt is on the surface of the radiator grille or front emblem.
―  Inclement weather caused by snow, rain or sand storms.
―  Driving near facilities and buildings which emit strong radio waves.
―  Distance to the vehicle ahead is extremely short.
―  Another vehicle cuts into the driving lane ahead of the vehicle.
―  Driving on continuously curving road
―  Entering or exiting a curve.
―  Driving on narrow lane roads due to road construction or lane closures.
―  The vehicle ahead or an obstruction enters the blind spot of the radar unit.
―  Driving under erratic conditions in which there is a surrounding accident or vehicle breakdown.
―  Driving on roads with repeated up and down slopes
―  Driving on poor roads or unpaved roads

Function

WARNING

•  The distance & speed alert (DSA) calculates the distance between the vehicle ahead and the detecting vehicle, and if it determines that the distance between the vehicle ahead and the detecting vehicle is short, the i-ACTIVSENSE status symbol changes from green to amber, a warning is displayed on the multi-information display and, at the same time, light deceleration is performed.

Personalization features

•   For details on the personalization features, refer to [PERSONALIZATION FEATURES ] in the workshop manual.
―  The system can be set to on (operational)/off (non-operational) (initial setting is on (operational).

System conditions display

•  The body control module (BCM) displays the system status on the multi-information display.

Operation

Operation conditions
―  Vehicle speed calculated by body control module (BCM) is 30 km/h {19 mph} or more based on wheel speed signal received via CAN communication from electronically controlled brake unit
―  Switch the main power ON (READY off or on)
―  Distance & speed alert (DSA) is ON
―  Selector lever is in a position other than R
―  i-ACTIVSENSE status symbol (green) is displayed
Operation
1.  The body control module (BCM) calculates the distance between the detecting vehicle and the vehicle ahead based on the object information (1) from the front radar sensor and the forward sensing camera (FSC), and sends a driving assist system status signal (2) to the instrument cluster.
2.  When the instrument cluster receives the driver assist status signal (2) from the body control module (BCM), it changes (3) the color of the i-ACTIVSENSE status symbol (warning/risk avoidance support system) from green to amber, and it displays (3) the alert screen on the multi-information display.
