Function

•  The front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system detects vehicles approaching from a blind spot at the front.
•  Alerts the driver of vehicles approaching in areas with poor visibility such as at intersections.

Front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system

•  The front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system detects vehicles approaching from the left and right in the front of the vehicle when entering an area with poor visibility such as at an intersection, and warns the driver using a warning sound and warning indication.

System check

•   Turns on the i-ACTIVSENSE warning light during a system check, and turn it off when the system check is finished. If a system malfunction is found, the i-ACTIVSENSE warning light turns on continuously.

System Conditions Display Function

•  The body control module (BCM) displays the system conditions in the instrument cluster, active driving display, and the center display.

Operation

Warning
•  The front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system assists the driver in checking the front of the vehicle. Because there are various restrictions in the system operations, the alert may not be performed or may be delayed even if a vehicle is present at the front of the vehicle, which may result in an accident. Do not rely completely on the system and always take responsibility as the driver in confirming the area in front of the vehicle.
Caution
•  The vehicle detection performance of the front cross traffic alert system has limitations. The system may operate even if no vehicle is approaching under the following conditions.
―  There is roadside object which reflects radar, such as parked vehicle, guardrail, or wall, by side of detecting vehicle
―  Vehicles are stopped around detecting vehicle in heavy traffic
―  Vehicle approaching from front or from side of detecting vehicle is decelerating
―  Vehicle approaching from front or right side of detecting vehicle turns left or right directly in front of detecting vehicle
―  Vehicles or pedestrians are moving in parking lot or on sidewalk around detecting vehicle
―  When detecting vehicle turns left or right, vehicle approaching in opposite direction is traveling in driving lane after turning left or right
―  Passing vehicles approaching from opposite direction
―  Another vehicle passes while detecting vehicle is stopped
―  Vehicle is near facility which generates strong radio waves or electrical noises such as TV tower or power plant
•  In the following cases, the front side radar sensor may not detect or have difficulty in detecting the following objects and the front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system may not operate normally.
―  Detection area of front side radar sensor is obstructed by adjacent wall or vehicle
―  Directly after system is made operable
―  Sensor receives radio interference by radar sensor installed on adjacent vehicle
―  Approaching vehicle has one or more of following characteristics in shape
Vehicle size is very small
Vehicle height is very low/high
Has complex shape such as of special vehicle
―  Vehicle suddenly enters detection area from front or side of detecting vehicle
―  Stopped vehicle suddenly starts moving
―  Several objects are moving at same time
―  Vehicle is driven in adverse weather such as heavy rain, fog, snow, or sand storms
―  Vehicle is driven on sharp curves or uneven roads
―  There is roadside object which reflects radar, such as parked vehicle, guardrail, or wall, by side of detecting vehicle
―  Approaching vehicle approaches while turning (such as at roundabout)
―  Driving extremely slowly
•  The system turns on the i-ACTIVSENSE warning light and stops operating under the following conditions.
―  Malfunction in system is recognized
―  Front side radar sensor installation position is largely deviated
―  There is large amount of snow or ice on front bumper near front side radar sensor
―  Temperature near radar sensor becomes excessively high such as when climbing uphill road for long period on hot day
―  Lead-acid battery voltage is low

Front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system operation

•  When all of the following conditions are met, the front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system goes on operation standby.
Preconditions
―  Front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system is on (system operational status)
Note
•  The front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system can be turned on/off using the personalization features.
―  Front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system is normal
•  The warning is activated if the following condition are met.
Operation conditions
Warning 1
―  Approaching vehicle is detected which will reach alert area within 3 s
Warning 2
―  Detecting vehicle accelerates from a standstill when approaching vehicle is detected which will reach alert area within 2 s
•  When any of the following conditions is met, the front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system turns off.
Stop conditions
―  Front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system is off (system stopped status)
Note
•  The front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system can be turned on/off using the personalization features.
―  Front cross traffic alert (FCTA) system is malfunctioning
Vehicle is approaching on left side
1.  The front side radar sensor starts to detect approaching vehicles using the radio waves it is emitting when the preconditions are met.
2.  When the front side radar sensor on the left side detects an approaching vehicle, it sends an FCTA signal (1) to the instrument cluster, active driving display, and the connectivity master unit (CMU) via the body control module (BCM). The body control module (BCM) outputs a warning sound signal (2) to the notification and warning speaker (front) to activate the warning sound.
3.  Based on the FCTA signal (1), the instrument cluster displays a warning indication (2) on the multi-information display, and the active driving display displays a warning indication (2) on the windshield, and the connectivity master unit (CMU) displays a warning indication (2) on the center display.

Vehicle is approaching on right side
1.  The front side radar sensor starts to detect approaching vehicles using the radio waves it is emitting when the preconditions are met.
2.  When the front side radar sensor on the right side detects an approaching vehicle, it sends target information (1) to the front side radar sensor on the left side.
3.  When the front side radar sensor on the left side detects an approaching vehicle, it sends an FCTA signal (2) to the instrument cluster, active driving display, and the connectivity master unit (CMU) via the body control module (BCM). The body control module (BCM) outputs a warning sound signal (3) to the notification and warning speaker (front) to activate the warning sound.
4.  Based on the FCTA signal (2), the instrument cluster displays a warning indication (3) on the multi-information display, and the active driving display displays a warning indication (2) on the windshield, and the connectivity master unit (CMU) displays a warning indication (2) on the center display.
