Purpose

Function

Calibration function

•  The driver monitoring camera unit determines the degree to which the driver’s face is facing the front (individual differences) and the size of the driver’s eyes (individual differences) from the data of approx. 5 min taken when the vehicle begins driving at a vehicle speed of 30 km/h or more.

Note

•  It is not necessary to perform calibration when replacing the unit.

Face detection determination function

•  The driver’s head position, face direction, and line of vision, opening/closing angle of the driver’s eyes, and opening/closing angle of the driver's mouth are determined based on the video signal from the driver monitoring camera.

Note

Under the following conditions, the driver monitoring (DM) or an early collision warning may not operate normally.

•  Driver monitoring camera or driver monitoring camera LED is covered

•  Vehicle is driven in posture covering steering wheel

•  Glasses or sunglasses are worn

•  A part of eye is covered by cap or bangs, or part of face is covered by face mask

•  Lighting conditions are largely changed (backlight from setting sun, light from side, direct light, and headlights of vehicles approaching from opposite direction)

•  Driver is driving with face largely tilted to the side

•  Driver is moving around significantly

•  Driver frequently turns face or gazes away from front (forward direction)

Under the following conditions, an early collision warning may not operate normally.

•  Driver’s line of vision is moving, stops moving directly afterward

•  Driver’s line of vision and direction face is pointed are largely different

•  Driver is driving with face largely tilted

CAN communication function

•  The driver monitoring camera unit sends the driver’s head position, face direction, line of vision, opening/closing angle of the driver’s eyes, and opening/closing angle of the driver's mouth to the body control module (BCM) via CAN communication.

Infrared light LED projection control

•  Outputs a signal to the driver monitoring camera LED and adjusts the light.
