Purpose, Function
• The electric water pump pumps the coolant to circulate in the coolant passage to cool the high voltage parts.
Construction
• The electric water pump is located next to the electric motor.
• The electric water pump consists of the pump housing, motor, impeller, and motor control IC.
• The pump motor has adopted a DC brushless motor.
Because there is no brush, the size and weight of the motor have been reduced. In addition, because there are no contacts with the rotor, part durability has been improved and noise has also been reduced.
• The pump housing material is hard plastic for weight reduction.
Operation
• The electric water pump is driven based on the drive signal received from the PCM via LIN communication. For the control details, refer to [ELECTRIC WATER PUMP CONTROL]. (See

• The electric water pump performs the LIN control using the internal control IC to drive the pump motor.
• The electric water pump monitors the pump motor conditions using the internal control IC and sends condition signals such as the rotation speed to the PCM via LIN communication.
