i-ACTIV AWD SYSTEM

id031900103000

Outline

•  The electronic all-wheel drive (AWD) control system (i-ACTIV AWD) automatically and optimally controls drive torque distribution for the front and rear wheels. Due to this off-road mobility and driving stability are improved.
•  Based on the input signals from each sensor, the PCM determines vehicle driving and road conditions, and controls output current to the electronic control coupling (AWD solenoid) inside the rear differential. This control allows for optimal distribution of the drive torque from the engine to the rear wheels.
•  Actual fuel economy similar to the 2WD has been realized by minimizing energy loss for the entire i-ACTIV AWD system.
•  AWD control is performed while coordinating with the G-vectoring control plus. Due to this, handling stability during cornering has been improved. (See G-VECTORING CONTROL PLUS (GVC PLUS) [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)
•  The off-road traction assist has been adopted to achieve the road handling ability if diagonally opposed wheels lose contact with the ground.

Features

•  The PCM calculates the optimum transmission torque to the rear wheels based on the following input signals, and the ESU outputs control current to the electronic control coupling (AWD solenoid) based on the calculation result.
•  The module controls the current outputted to the AWD solenoid by changing the rate of the ON/OFF timing.
