Electric Parking Brake Indicator Light, Brake Control System Warning Light
Purpose, function
• The electric parking brake indicator light and the brake control system warning light notify the driver that the vehicle is under the following conditions.

― Electric parking brake indicator light

• The electric parking brake is operating.
• There is a malfunction in the electric parking brake system.
― Brake control system warning light
-
• There is a malfunction in the electric parking brake system.
• The mode is switched to the maintenance mode.
• The mode is switched to the electric parking brake inspection mode.
Construction, operation
• The electric parking brake indicator light and the brake control system warning light are integrated with the instrument cluster.
• When the ignition is switched ON and if the system and CAN line of the electric parking brake are normal, the electric parking brake indicator light and the brake control system warning light turn on for an open-circuit check and turn off after approx. 3 s. At this time, the electric parking brake indicator light remains turned on while the electric parking brake is operating. However, if the electric parking brake is released, the light turns off.
• When the electric parking brake is operating, released, or malfunctioning, the electric parking brake indicator light and the brake control system warning light operate as indicated in the table below.

• When the electric parking brake is operating, the electronically controlled brake unit sends an electric parking brake indicator light on request signal to the instrument cluster. When the instrument cluster receives the electric parking brake indicator light on request signal, the transistor is turned on and the electric parking brake indicator light turns on.
• If there is a malfunction in the electric parking brake, the electronically controlled brake unit sends a brake control system warning light on request signal and an electric parking brake indicator light on request signal to the instrument cluster. When the instrument cluster receives the brake control system warning light on request signal and the electric parking brake indicator light on request signal, the transistor is turned on and the electric parking brake indicator light and the brake control system warning light turn on.
• If there is a malfunction in the electric parking brake, the electronically controlled brake unit sends an electric parking brake indicator light flash request signal to the instrument cluster. When the instrument cluster receives the electric parking brake indicator light flash request signal, the transistor is turned on intermittently and the electric parking brake indicator light flashes.
Electric Parking Brake Warning Chime
Purpose
• While driving or after accelerating from a standstill, the electric parking brake warning chime alerts the driver that the electric parking brake is operating.
Function
• Under the following vehicle conditions, the electronically controlled brake unit outputs an electric parking brake warning chime request signal to the BCM and the warning sound is activated. At the same time, a message is indicated on the display to warn the driver.

― The electric parking brake is operated while the vehicle is driven.
― The accelerator pedal is depressed when the electric parking brake is operating while the vehicle is stopped (door opened or driver seat belt unfastened)
― The electric parking brake is operating after the vehicle accelerates from a standstill. (Electric parking brake automatic release function is not operating)
Construction, operation
• The electric parking brake warning chime is activated by the notification and warning speaker.
• The BCM receives (1) an electric parking brake warning chime request signal to the electronically controlled brake unit.
• When the BCM receives the electric parking brake warning chime request signal, the notification and warning speaker activates (2) the electric parking brake warning chime.
