SHIFT POINT CONTROL (MANUAL SHIFT CONTROL) [ET6A-EL, ET6AX-EL]

id0517n3362200

Outline

•  The TCM operates manual mode when the steering shift switch is operated in the D position while manual mode of AT shift mode is selected*1 using the center display personalization setting.
•  If the manual mode is selected, manual shifting is prioritized according to the driver’s shift up/shift down operation. However, to assure driving safety and protect the ATX, minimum automatic shifting may occur.
•  If the up switch (+/OFF) of the steering shift switch is pulled for a certain period of time or more while in manual mode, manual mode is canceled and returns to the auto shift control.
•  If the selector lever is shifted to a position other than D while in manual mode, manual mode is canceled.
•  If direct mode of AT shift mode for the center display personalization setting is selected*1 while the vehicle is stopped in manual mode, manual mode is canceled and returns to the auto shift control.
*1  :For the method of switching between manual mode and direct mode, refer to [PERSONALIZATION FEATURES] in the workshop manual.

Operation

•  Gears can be selected by the shift operation while driving in manual mode.
•  When a shift-up operation is performed while driving in the D position, the gears are shifted up to a gear 1 higher than the gear being used while driving in the D position.
•  When a shift-down operation is performed while driving in the D position, the gears are shifted down to a gear 1 lower than the gear being used while driving in the D position.
•  When a shift-down is performed using the selector lever while driving in manual mode with the accelerator pedal not depressed, blipping control (engine speed synchronization) is performed to shorten the shifting time.
•  When the accelerator pedal is fully depressed while driving in manual mode, kickdown shifting is performed to elicit the acceleration performance. In addition, if the engine reaches a high engine speed with the accelerator pedal fully depressed, the gears shift up automatically.
Note
•  If the TCS OFF switch is operated and the TCS/DSC control is inhibited, kickdown shifting is not performed and the gears do not shift up automatically even if the accelerator pedal is fully depressed while the vehicle is being driven in the manual mode. (2WD)
•  If the Off-Road Traction Assist switch is operated and the Off-Road Traction Assist/DSC control is inhibited, kickdown shifting is not performed and the gears do not shift up automatically even if the accelerator pedal is fully depressed while the vehicle is being driven in the manual mode. (AWD)
•  If the ATF temperature exceeds the specified temperature while in manual mode, the TCM switches control to automatic shift control and turns the gear position indicator off to reduce the transaxle load. When the ATF temperature decreases to the appropriate temperature, the TCM enables driving in manual mode and re-illuminates the gear position indicator.
•  During manual mode, in every gear speed, engine brake force can be obtained corresponding to the gear ratio. In addition, if the vehicle speed reaches a constant speed or less, shift-down is performed automatically.

•  The gear shifting operation may cancel depending on the vehicle speed. If a shift-down operation is canceled, the gear position indicator illuminates to alert the driver.
•  If the engine reaches a high engine speed, the following controls are performed to protect the engine:
1.  The throttle valve is squeezed so that the engine speed does not exceed the excess speed range and the engine speed is stabilized at a lower speed than the excess speed range.
2.  If the high engine speed condition continues, the engine speed is lowered by a forced shift-up of the gears.

Direct mode

•  When the steering shift switch is operated while driving with the selector lever in the D position while direct mode of AT shift mode is selected*1 using the center display personalization setting, the gear position may temporarily switch. While in direct mode, D and M turn on in the indicator light and the operating gear position is displayed. Direct mode is canceled under the following conditions:
―  Specified time has elapsed while driving at constant speed
―  Vehicle stopped or driving at low speed (Except 2nd gear fixed mode)
―  Up switch of steering shift switch is pulled for certain period of time or more
*1  :For the method of switching between manual mode and direct mode, refer to [PERSONALIZATION FEATURES] in the workshop manual.

2nd gear fixed mode

•  When a shift-up operation is performed and the gears are in 2nd gear while the vehicle is stopped or the vehicle speed is extremely low, the mode is in 2nd gear fixed mode. On slippery surfaces such as snow-bound roads, forward acceleration and driving is facilitated.
•  While in 2nd gear fixed mode and the shift operation is performed to gears other than 2nd gear, 2nd gear fixed mode is canceled.
•  If the accelerator pedal is fully depressed in 2nd gear fixed mode, kickdown shifting is performed and the 2nd gear fixed mode is cancelled.
•  When the vehicle speed is approx. 30 km/h {19 mph} or more while in 2nd gear fixed mode of direct mode, 2nd gear fixed mode is canceled.
