SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

• When removing/installing the selector lever knob, park the vehicle on level ground and always set the wheel blocks on both the front and rear wheels. Otherwise, the vehicle could move causing injury and damage to the vehicle.
1. Follow the procedure below to remove the selector lever knob. (See Selector Lever Knob Installation Note.)
- (1) Park the vehicle on level ground.

- (2) Apply the parking brake securely and block the front and rear wheels using wheel blocks.

- (3) Switch the ignition ON (engine on).

- (4) To prevent scratches or damage, apply protective tape to the tool (width is 2 mm {0.08 in} or less, thickness is 1 mm {0.04 in} or less).

- (5) Shift the selector lever to the D position.

- (6) Switch the ignition off.
-
- (7) Insert the tool as shown in the figure.

- (8) Move the tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure and slide the cover in the direction of arrow (2) to remove it from the selector lever knob.

- (9) While pressing down the spring in the direction of arrow (1), remove it in the direction of arrow (2).

- (10) Remove the selector lever knob.

Caution
-
• If foreign matter gets inside the selector lever, the selector lever could be damaged. Do not remove the push rod.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.(See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
3. Remove the shift panel. (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4. Remove the nuts shown in the figure.
5. Disconnect the selector lever connector.
6. Remove the selector lever.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
8. When replacing the selector lever, perform the following procedure.
- (1) When the ignition off, verify that the indicator does not turn on.

- (2) When the ignition is switched to ACC or ON (engine off), verify that the indicator turns on.

- (3) When the brake pedal is depressed, verify that the selector lever cannot be shifted from the P position.

- (4) When the ignition is switched ON (engine on), verify that the indicator turns on.

- (5) When the brake pedal is depressed, verify that the selector lever can be shifted from the P position.

- (6) Connect the M-MDS and perform the DTC readout. Verify that no DTC is displayed. (See DTC INSPECTION.)

Selector Lever Knob Installation Note
1. Install the spring to the selector lever knob.

Caution
-
• Install the spring to the position past the stopper.
2. Slide the cover in the direction of arrow (1) and attach it to the selector lever knob.
3. Install the selector lever knob to the selector lever.
4. Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
5. Shift the selector lever to the P position.
6. Switch the ignition off.
Note for When Push Rod Comes Off

• If foreign matter gets inside the selector lever, the selector lever could be damaged. When installing the push rod, clean the push rod.
• If the push rod is installed in a different direction, the selector lever could be damaged. When installing the push rod, install it so that the pointed end faces up.
1. Clean the push rod.
2. Install the push rod as shown in the figure.
