Possible cause
•  Power steering malfunction indicator light/power steering malfunction indication circuit malfunction in the instrument cluster.
•  An error originates from the Electric Power Steering (EPS) control module, and the off signal is generated.

VERIFY POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT/POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION INDICATION ILLUMINATION CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
•  Is the power steering malfunction indicator light/power steering malfunction indication illuminated?
Yes
Malfunction may be temporary.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY COMMUNICATION CONDITION BETWEEN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) CONTROL MODULE AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)
•  Using the M-MDS, display the following PIDs for the body control module (BCM).
―  EPS_NETWORK
•  Is the EPS_NETWORK PID value "Node Attached and Communicate correctly"?
Yes
Perform the body control module (BCM) configuration, then repeat the inspection from Step 1.
If the malfunction recurs, replace the instrument cluster.
No
Electric Power Steering (EPS) control module malfunction.
Replace the Electric Power Steering (EPS) control module.
Perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification
VERIFY THAT MALFUNCTION SYMPTOMS DO NOT RECUR AFTER REPAIR
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Complete the symptom troubleshooting.
Explain to the customer what has been repaired.
No
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
