Warning

•  Removing the liftgate without supporting it may cause it to fall off and injure you. When removing the liftgate, always use two persons to perform the work.

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the rear package tray. (See REAR PACKAGE TRAY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Remove the liftgate upper trim. (See LIFTGATE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Disconnect the connectors and rear washer hose E.

5.  Remove the wiring harness clips.

6.  Partially peel the liftgate grommet in the direction of arrow shown in the figure, and remove the liftgate grommet from the inner liftgate grommet. (See Liftgate Grommet Installation Note.)

7.  Using a remover tool, press the inner liftgate grommet tabs in the direction of arrows (1) and (2) shown in the figure and remove the inner liftgate grommet from the liftgate in the direction of arrow (3).

8.  Pull out the rear washer hose E and harness passing through the liftgate grommet from the liftgate.

9.  Insert the remover tool into the position shown in the figure.

10.  Move the remover tool in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove the securing band.

11.  Remove the bolts.

12.  Remove the liftgate.

13.  Remove the stud balls. (Only when replacing stud balls)

14.  Install in the reverse order of removal. (See Liftgate Grommet Installation Note.)

15.  Adjust the liftgate. (See LIFTGATE ADJUSTMENT.)

16.  Perform the 360° view monitor system aiming. (With 360° view monitor system) (See 360°VIEW MONITOR SYSTEM AIMING.)

Liftgate Grommet Installation Note

Caution

•  Always replace a new inner liftgate grommet when installing the liftgate grommet. If the inner liftgate grommet is removed, the tab connection may weaken and it may cause water leakage.

1.  Install the liftgate grommet using the following procedure:

(1)  Engage a new inner liftgate grommet.

(2)  Align the inner liftgate grommet projection with the indentation on the liftgate grommet, and install it.

Caution

•  Install the liftgate grommet inner so that there is no gap between the liftgate grommet and the liftgate grommet inner. Otherwise, it may cause water leakage.

(3)  Move the inner liftgate grommet in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and engage the inner liftgate grommet tabs on the liftgate side.

Caution

•  After installing the liftgate, shake the inner liftgate grommet to verify that the tabs are securely engaged. Install the liftgate grommet so that there is no gap between the liftgate grommet and the liftgate. Otherwise, it may cause water leakage.
