Purpose
• Detects vacuum in the power brake unit and sends it to the PCM. The PCM performs the following controls.

― The PCM determines whether to enable engine start/enable engine restart of the i-stop control based on high/low vacuum in the power brake unit. (With i-stop)
― The PCM sends the vacuum in the power brake unit detected with vacuum sensor 2 to the electric vacuum pump control unit via CAN communication as information to assist the electric vacuum pump operation/stop.
Function
• Detects the vacuum in the power brake unit and sends it to the PCM as a power brake unit vacuum signal.

Construction
• The vacuum sensor 2 is located on the power brake unit.
• A piezoelectric element has been adopted for the detection area of the vacuum sensor 2.
• A piezoelectric element generates voltage when force such as vibration or pressure is applied to it. Using this characteristic, the sensor outputs the vacuum in the power brake unit as voltage.
Operation
1. The vacuum sensor 2 detects (1) the vacuum in the power brake unit.
2. The vacuum sensor 2 sends (2) the detected vacuum in the power brake unit to the PCM as a power brake unit vacuum signal.
