PROPELLER SHAFT INSPECTION

1. Remove the following parts:

(1) Plate (With plate) (See PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(2) Center under cover (With center under cover) (See CENTER UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2. Remove the bolts.

3. Remove the member bracket. (With member bracket)

4. Remove the bolts.

5. Remove the tunnel member.

6. Remove the propeller shaft (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

7. Measure the runout of the propeller shaft at each position using a dial gauge.

Maximum runout

0.6 mm {0.02 in}

• If it exceeds the maximum specification, replace the propeller shaft. (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

8. Inspect the play and rotation of the joint by turning the universal joint in the directions shown by the arrows.

Initial torque (reference)

0.29—0.98 N·m {3.0—9.9 kgf·cm, 2.6—8.6 in·lbf}

• If there is any play or if the initial torque is not within the standard, replace the propeller shaft. (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
