Description

Rear roof link motor (LH) pulse input circuit malfunction

Detection condition

•  The retractable hardtop control module cannot detect a pulse signal from the rear roof link motor (LH) when the rear roof link motor operation starts.

Fail-safe

•  Stops retractable hardtop operation

Possible cause

•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:

―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F

―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D

•  Short to power supply in wiring harness between the following terminals:

―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F

―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B

•  Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:

―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F

―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B

―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D

•  Line-to-line short circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:

―  Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D

―  Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B

―  Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B

•  Rear roof link motor (LH) malfunction

•  Retractable hardtop control module malfunction

Possible cause	• Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals: ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D • Short to power supply in wiring harness between the following terminals: ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B • Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals: ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D • Line-to-line short circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals: ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B • Rear roof link motor (LH) malfunction • Retractable hardtop control module malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step	Inspection		Action
1	VERIFY OTHER RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONTROL MODULE DTCs • Clear the DTC for the retractable hardtop control module using the M-MDS. (See CLEARING DTC [RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONTROL MODULE].) • Retrieve the retractable hardtop control module DTCs using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONTROL MODULE].) • Is the DTCs U3000:44/U3000:45/U3000:49 displayed?	Yes	Replace the retractable hardtop control module, then go to Step 7. (See RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
1		No	Go to the next step.
2	INSPECT REAR ROOF LINK MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND • Switch the ignition off. • Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) • Disconnect the retractable hardtop control module and rear roof link motor (LH) connectors. • Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground: ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D • Is there continuity?	Yes	Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals: • Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F • Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D If there is a common connector: • Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground. • Repair or replace the malfunctioning part. If there is no common connector: • Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground. Go to Step 7.
2		No	Go to the next step.
3	INSPECT REAR ROOF LINK MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY • Verify that the retractable hardtop control module and rear roof link motor (LH) connectors are disconnected. • Connect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) • Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on). • Measure the voltage at the following terminals (wiring harness-side): ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B • Is the voltage 0 V?	Yes	Go to the next step.
3		No	Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals: • Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F • Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B If there is a common connector: • Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to power supply. • Repair or replace the malfunctioning part. If there is no common connector: • Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to power supply. Go to Step 7.
4	INSPECT REAR ROOF LINK MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT • Switch the ignition off. • Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) • Verify that the retractable hardtop control module and rear roof link motor (LH) connectors are disconnected. • Inspect the wiring harness for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side): ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B ― Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D • Is there continuity?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals: • Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4U and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F • Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B • Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D If there is a common connector: • Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for an open circuit. • Repair or replace the malfunctioning part. If there is no common connector: • Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit. Go to Step 7.
5	INSPECT REAR ROOF LINK MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS • Verify that the retractable hardtop control module and rear roof link motor (LH) connectors are disconnected. • Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side): ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B ― Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B • Is there continuity?	Yes	Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals: • Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D • Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal F and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B • Rear roof link motor (LH) terminal D and rear roof link motor (LH) terminal B If there is a common connector: • Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short between circuit. • Repair or replace the malfunctioning part. If there is no common connector: • Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short between circuit. Go to Step 7.
5		No	Go to the next step.
6	INSPECT REAR ROOF LINK MOTOR (LH) • Inspect the rear roof link motor (LH). (See REAR ROOF LINK MOTOR INSPECTION.) • Is the rear roof link motor (LH) normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
6		No	Replace the rear roof link motor (LH), then go to the next step. (See REAR ROOF LINK MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
7	VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED • Always reconnect all disconnected connectors. • Connect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) • Clear the DTC for the retractable hardtop control module using the M-MDS. (See CLEARING DTC [RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONTROL MODULE].) • Retrieve the retractable hardtop control module DTCs using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONTROL MODULE].) • Is the same DTC displayed?	Yes	Repeat the inspection from Step 1. • If the malfunction recurs, replace the retractable hardtop control module. (See RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) Go to the next step.
7		No	Go to the next step.
8	VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED • Are any other DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONTROL MODULE].)
8		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
