ACTIVE BONNET CONTROL MODULE CONSTRUCTION/OPERATION
id081300002100
Construction
• The active bonnet control module is installed to the back of the trunk on the right side of the vehicle.
• The following circuits are integrated into the active bonnet control module.
-
― Determination/safing circuit: Determines deployment of the active bonnet actuator based on the signal indicating the degree of impact from the active bonnet sensor, the vehicle speed from the PCM, the ambient temperature from the instrument cluster.
― Output control circuit: Establishes the active bonnet actuator ignition circuit, and deploys the active bonnet actuator.
Operation
-
Note
-
1. During a frontal collision, the crash sensors built into the active bonnet sensor detect the collision and determine the degree of impact.
2. The active bonnet sensors convert the detected degree of impact to an electrical signal and input it to the active bonnet control module determination and safing circuit.
3. If the active bonnet control module receives 2 or more collision signals from the active bonnet sensors, the determination/safing circuit processes the calculations for the signals and compares the values with the preset values (degree of impact).
4. If the vehicle speed when a collision occurred is within the specified operable speed range and the collision signals sent from the active bonnet sensors exceed the preset value, the module establishes an ignition circuit in the output control circuit and sends an operation signal to the active bonnet actuators.
Ambient temperature correction
-
• The ambient temperature correction is a correction to the specified value of the degree of impact for deploying the active bonnet actuators and is based on the ambient temperature signal from the instrument cluster.
• The ambient temperature influences the rigidity of the front bumper and if the ambient temperature is low, the rigidity of the bumper increases, and if the temperature is high, the rigidity decreases.
• The rigidity of the front bumper influences the transmission of impact during a vehicle collision and when the bumper rigidity is high, transmission of impact is difficult and when low, transmission is facilitated.
• Under a condition where the transmission of impact is difficult, the active bonnet control module lowers the preset value for the degree of impact to prevent a non-operation of the active bonnet.
• Under a condition where the transmission of impact is facilitated, the active bonnet control module raises the preset value for the degree of impact to prevent an unnecessary operation of the active bonnet.
