Malfunction location

• Windshield wiper switch circuit malfunction

Detection condition

• Short to ground in wiring harness between windshield wiper and washer switch (windshield wiper INT) and BCM

Possible causes

• DTC inspection is performed with windshield wiper switch on.

• Wiper and washer switch connector or terminals malfunction

• Windshield wiper switch malfunction

• BCM connector or terminals malfunction

• Short to ground in wiring harness between wiper and washer switch terminal E and BCM terminal 6S (vehicles with wiper and washer switch on left side)

• Short to ground in wiring harness between wiper and washer switch terminal I and BCM terminal 6S (vehicles with wiper and washer switch on right side)

• BCM malfunction

PERFORM DTC INSPECTION

•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Turn the windshield wiper switch off.

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Is the DTC B1008:11 displayed?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

VERIFY WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

•  Disconnect the wiper and washer switch connector.

•  Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness.

•  Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.

VERIFY WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH CONDITION

•  Inspect the windshield wiper switch.
(See WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH INSPECTION.)

•  Is the windshield wiper switch normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the wiper and washer switch, then go to the final step.

(See WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

VERIFY BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Disconnect the BCM connector.

•  Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness.

•  Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.

VERIFY WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH AND BCM FOR SHORT TO GROUND

•  Wiper and washer switch and BCM connectors are disconnected.

•  Inspect for continuity between the BCM terminal 6S (wiring harness-side) and body ground.

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.

No

Go to the next step.

VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED

•  Reconnect all disconnected connectors.

•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.

•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Turn the windshield wiper switch off.

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Is the DTC B1008:11 displayed?

Yes

Replace the BCM.

(See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

2	VERIFY WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION • Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. • Disconnect the negative battery cable. • Disconnect the wiper and washer switch connector. • Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness. • Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?	Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.
3	VERIFY WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH CONDITION • Inspect the windshield wiper switch. (See WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH INSPECTION.) • Is the windshield wiper switch normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
3		No	Replace the wiper and washer switch, then go to the final step. (See WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4	VERIFY BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION • Disconnect the BCM connector. • Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness. • Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.
5	VERIFY WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH AND BCM FOR SHORT TO GROUND • Wiper and washer switch and BCM connectors are disconnected. • Inspect for continuity between the BCM terminal 6S (wiring harness-side) and body ground. • Is there continuity?	Yes	Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.
5		No	Go to the next step.
6	VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED • Reconnect all disconnected connectors. • Reconnect the negative battery cable. • Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS. (See CLEARING DTC [BCM].) • Turn the windshield wiper switch off. • Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].) • Is the DTC B1008:11 displayed?	Yes	Replace the BCM. (See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
6		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
