• Windshield wiper switch circuit malfunction

Detection Condition

• Windshield wiper switch INT circuit malfunction

Possible Causes

• Wiper and washer switch connector or terminals malfunction

• BCM connector or terminals malfunction

• Open circuit in wiring harness between windshield wiper and washer switch terminal E and BCM terminal 6S (vehicles with wiper and washer switch on left side)

• Open circuit in wiring harness between windshield wiper and washer switch terminal I and BCM terminal 6S (vehicles with wiper and washer switch on right side)

• Windshield wiper and washer switch malfunction

• BCM malfunction

PERFORM DTC INSPECTION

•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Turn the windshield wiper switch on.

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Is the DTC B1C53:13 displayed?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

VERIFY WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

•  Disconnect the wiper and washer switch connector.

•  Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness.

•  Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.

VERIFY BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Disconnect the BCM connector.

•  Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness.

•  Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.

VERIFY BETWEEN WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH AND BCM FOR OPEN CIRCUIT

•  Wiper and washer switch and BCM connectors are disconnected.

•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):

―  Between wiper and washer switch terminal E and BCM terminal 6S (vehicles with wiper and washer switch on left side)

―  Between wiper and washer switch terminal I and BCM terminal 6S (vehicles with wiper and washer switch on right side)

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.

VERIFY WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONDITION

•  Inspect the windshield wiper and washer switch.
(See WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH INSPECTION.)

•  Is the windshield wiper and washer switch normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the wiper and washer switch, then go to the final step.

(See WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED

•  Reconnect all disconnected connectors.

•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.

•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Turn the windshield wiper switch on.

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Is the DTC B1C53:13 displayed?

Yes

Replace the BCM.

(See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

3	VERIFY BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION • Disconnect the BCM connector. • Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness. • Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?	Yes	Go to the next step.

4	VERIFY BETWEEN WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH AND BCM FOR OPEN CIRCUIT • Wiper and washer switch and BCM connectors are disconnected. • Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side): ― Between wiper and washer switch terminal E and BCM terminal 6S (vehicles with wiper and washer switch on left side) ― Between wiper and washer switch terminal I and BCM terminal 6S (vehicles with wiper and washer switch on right side) • Is there continuity?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.
5	VERIFY WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONDITION • Inspect the windshield wiper and washer switch. (See WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH INSPECTION.) • Is the windshield wiper and washer switch normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
5		No	Replace the wiper and washer switch, then go to the final step. (See WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
6	VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED • Reconnect all disconnected connectors. • Reconnect the negative battery cable. • Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS. (See CLEARING DTC [BCM].) • Turn the windshield wiper switch on. • Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].) • Is the DTC B1C53:13 displayed?	Yes	Replace the BCM.
