IGNITION COIL [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5]

id0118q3000100

Purpose, Function

•  The ignition coil generates high voltage required for ignition by electromagnetic induction.

Construction

•  The ignition coil is located on the upper part of the spark plug. (Direct ignition coil)
•  With the adoption of the direct ignition coil, transmission path from the ignition coil to the spark plug has been simplified. Due to this, voltage required for ignition can be suppressed and ignition performance of the spark plug is stabilized.

•  The ignition coil is built into the igniter and ion sensor. (SKYACTIV-G 1.5 (with 4-2-1 exhaust system))
For the ion sensor, refer to CONTROL SYSTEM. (See ION SENSOR [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5].)

Operation

•  Current to the ignition coils is blocked and high voltage is generated at the optimum timing according to the driving conditions by the PCM ignition control.
