ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5]

Warning

•  A hot engine can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool before removing the ECT sensor.

Without Coolant Control Valve

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5].)

3.  Pull out the evaporative hose No.1 from the catch tank and set it aside.

4.  While pressing the clip tabs in the direction of the arrows (1) shown in the figure, push out the clip in the direction of the arrow (2) shown in the figure and remove the clip.

5.  Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.

6.  Remove the ECT sensor using the SST.

7.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

8.  Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5].)

With Coolant Control Valve

ECT sensor No.1

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5].)

3.  Lift up the vehicle.

4.  Remove the front under cover No.2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.  Disconnect the ECT sensor No.1 connector.

6.  Remove the ECT sensor No.1 using the SST.

7.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

8.  Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5].)

ECT sensor No.2

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5].)

3.  Remove the coolant control valve. (See COOLANT CONTROL VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5].)

4.  Remove the short cord.

5.  Remove the ECT sensor No.2 using the SST.

6.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

7.  Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5].)
