REDUCTION GEAR
id061300244000
Purpose/ Function
• The reduction gear transmits the rotation input from the electric power steering (EPS) motor, decreasing the rotation speed and increasing the torque simultaneously.
Construction
• The reduction gear is integrated with the steering column and consists of the worm wheel positioned on the steering column main shaft and the worm shaft connected to the EPS motor.
Operation
• The assist torque generated by the EPS motor is transmitted to the worm wheel via the worm shaft which then drives the steering column main shaft.
• The EPS motor assist torque is increased by the gear reduction ratio (20.5:1) between the worm shaft and worm wheel, and transmitted to the steering column main shaft.
Fail-safe
• Function not equipped.
