SIDE IMPACT BAR
id091100414100
Purpose, Function
• A door beltline reinforcement and side impact bars have been adopted to prevent the doors from intruding into the cabin in a side collision.
Construction
• Waveform (double-hat shape cross section) shape has been adopted to the following side impact bars:
Front door
-
― Side impact bar lower
Rear door
-
― Side impact bar lower
• By adopting the waveform (double-hat shape cross section) side impact bars, strength can be assured even with thinner steel plates, achieving both high rigidity and weight reduction.
• For the door beltline reinforcement of the front door, an optimal cross-sectional shape has been adopted which satisfies both mass and strength, and achieves weight reduction.
• The door beltline reinforcement and side impact bars disperse the impact during a side collision.
• Intrusion of a front door during a side collision is suppressed by positioning the door beltline reinforcement and lower side impact bars of the front door so that they overlap the hinge pillar and center pillar.
• Intrusion of a rear door during a side collision is suppressed by positioning the lower side impact bars of the rear door so that they overlap the center pillar and side sill.
