Outline
• The rear window defogger removes fogging from the rear window glass surface.
• The outer mirror heaters remove fogging from the surface of outer mirror glass. (With heated outer mirrors)

Function
• Fogging on the glass surfaces of the rear window glass and the outer mirror glass is removed because the rear window glass and the outer mirror glass are heated by the rear window defogger and outer mirror heater filaments and moisture on the windows is vaporized.
• When the rear window defogger and the outer mirror heater have operated for approx. 15 min, the power supply to the rear window defogger relay is stopped by the timer in the BCM and the operation of the rear window defogger and the outer mirror heater is stopped.
Construction
Rear window defogger
• The rear window defogger filaments are positioned on the cabin side of the rear window glass.
• The heated outer mirror filament is integrated in the outer mirror glass.
Operation
Full-auto air conditioner
1. When the rear window defogger switch is turned on with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on), the climate control unit sends a rear window defogger/outer mirror heater operation request signal to the instrument cluster (1) via CAN communication.
2. The instrument cluster sends the rear window defogger/outer mirror heater operation signal to the BCM (2).
3. When the BCM receives the rear window defogger/outer mirror heater operation signal, it turns the rear window defogger relay on (3). The rear window defogger timer/outer mirror heater timer operates at the same time the rear window defogger relay turns on.
4. When the rear window defogger relay is turned on, battery voltage is supplied to the rear window defogger and outer mirror heater filaments (4), and the rear window glass and the outer mirror glass are warmed by the heat from the filament.
-
Note
-
• When approx. 15 min have elapsed after the rear window defogger timer/outer mirror heater timer started operation, the BCM turns the rear window defogger relay off and stops the operation of the rear window defogger and the outer mirror heater.

Rear window defogger/outer mirror heater operation time is set to continuous

5. When approx. 15 min have elapsed since the body control module (BCM) received the rear window defogger/outer mirror heater operation request signal, it receives an ambient temperature signal from the PCM, and if the PCM detects an ambient temperature of 0 °C or less, the body control module (BCM) continues supplying power to the rear window defogger relay. (5) (Ambient temperature of 0 °C or less detected)
6. When approx. 15 min have elapsed since the body control module (BCM) received the rear window defogger/outer mirror heater operation request signal, it receives an ambient temperature signal from the PCM, if the PCM detects an ambient temperature of 1 °C or more, the body control module (BCM) stops supplying power to the rear window defogger/outer mirror heater and the rear window defogger/outer mirror heater operation is stopped. (6) (Ambient temperature of 1 °C or more detected)
