TORQUE SENSOR CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION
id061300246900
Construction
• The torque sensor, installed on the steering shaft, detects the amount of road surface resistance (steering torque) and the steering direction, and outputs a corresponding signal to the EPS CM.
Operation
• The steering shaft and the pinion shaft are joined by the torsion bar. When the driver operates the steering wheel, torsion forms on the torsion bar according to the steering force input through the steering shaft and the road surface resistance on the steering gear side. This torsion is converted to electrical signal in the torque sensor and outputs to the EPS CM as the amount of road surface resistance (steering torque) and the steering direction.
