Detection Condition

Warning
•  Detection conditions are for understanding the DTC outline before performing an inspection. Performing an inspection according to only the detection conditions may cause injury due to an operating error, or damage the system. When performing an inspection, always follow the inspection procedure.
•  Error in the impact magnitude setting of the sensor is detected due to incorrect assembly of the side air bag sensor.

Possible Causes

•  Driver-side side air bag sensor installed with incorrect sensor
•  Passenger-side side air bag sensor installed with incorrect sensor
•  SAS control module malfunction

VERIFY IF SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR IS ASSEMBLED INCORRECTLY
Warning
•  Handling the component parts improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions and the workshop manual before handling the air bag system components.
•  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait 1 min or more.
•  Remove the following parts:
―  Front scuff plate
―  Rear scuff plate
―  B-pillar lower trim
―  Front seat belt
•  Verify that the driver-side and passenger-side side air bag sensors are installed in the correct position.
•  Is each side air bag sensor installed correctly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Install each side air bag sensor to its correct position, then go to the next step.

PERFORM SAS CONTROL MODULE DTC INSPECTION
•  Install the front seat belt.
•  Connect the negative battery cable.
•  Clear the DTC for the SAS control module using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the SAS control module using the M-MDS.
•  Are the same DTCs present?
Yes
Replace the SAS control module.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
