•  When the CAN system is thought to be malfunctioning based on the repair order form and malfunction symptom, perform the CAN system on-board diagnosis according to the determination using the flowchart. (See DETERMINATION USING FLOWCHART [MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM].)
•  The CAN system DTC is also output when there is an internal or voltage malfunction in the CAN system-equipped control module and sensor. If DTCs other than CAN system DTCs are output and stored, inspect these first.
•  The M-MDS is necessary for the CAN system on-board diagnosis because the malfunctioning part is determined by the combination of output DTCs. If vehicle identification is not performed after the M-MDS is connected, inspect the connection between the DLC-2 and M-MDS, and the CAN line between the DLC-2 and PCM.
