DTC P2503

No electricity from generator output voltage for signal

DETECTION CONDITION

• The PCM needs 20 A or more from the generator, and determines the generator output voltage is 8.5 V or less while the engine is running.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Generator malfunction
• PCM and/or generator are poorly connected.
• Open and/or short to ground in wiring from between generator terminal P and PCM terminal 2AR
• Open and/or short to ground in wiring from between generator terminal D and PCM terminal 2AN
• Drive belt not properly adjusted

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
• Perform the DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE.
• Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent concern exists. Go to the INTERMITTENT CONCERN TROUBLESHOOTING procedure.
2
INSPECT DRIVE BELT CONDITION
• Verify that the drive belt auto tensioner indicator mark does not exceed the limit.
• Is the front drive belt normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace and/or adjust the drive belt, then go to Step 9.
3
INSPECT PCM FOR POOR CONNECTION
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Disconnect the PCM connector.
• Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged, pulled-out pins, and corrosion).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair the terminals, then go to Step 9.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT GENERATOR FOR POOR CONNECTION
• Disconnect the generator connector.
• Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged, pulled-out pins, and corrosion).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the terminals, then go to Step 9.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT GENERATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
• Inspect for continuity between generator terminal D (wiring harness-side) and body ground.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a short to ground, then go to Step 9.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT GENERATOR OUTPUT VOLTAGE MONITOR CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
• Inspect for continuity between generator terminal P (wiring harness-side) and body ground.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a short to ground, then go to Step 9.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT GENERATOR CONTROL FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
• Measure the resistance between generator terminal D (wiring harness-side) and PCM terminal 2AN.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for an open circuit, then go to Step 9.
8
INSPECT GENERATOR OUTPUT VOLTAGE MONITOR CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
• Measure the resistance between generator terminal P (wiring harness-side) and PCM terminal 2AR.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace generator, then go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for an open, then go to the next step.
9
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P2503 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all connectors.
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the WDS or equivalent.
• Perform the KOER self-test.
• Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
10
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform the "AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE".
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
(See DTC TABLE.)
No
Troubleshooting completed.
