DTC P0660

Variable intake-air system (VIS) shutter valve actuator control circuit malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION

• The PCM monitors the VIS shutter valve actuator control signal at PCM terminals 2AS and 2AO. If the PCM turns the VIS shutter valve actuator open or closed but the voltage at PCM terminals 2AS and 2AO do not coincide with the PCM signal voltage the PCM determines that the VIS shutter valve actuator circuit has a malfunction.
• The PCM could not perform a self-test for the VIS shutter valve actuator control circuit.
Diagnostic support note
• This is continuous monitor (other).
• The MIL does not illuminate.
• The PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunctioning conditions during the first drive cycle.
• The FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• The DTC is stored in the PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• VIS shutter valve actuator malfunction
• Short to power between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal A and PCM terminal 2AO
• Short to ground between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal A and PCM terminal 2AO
• Open circuit between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal A and PCM terminal 2AO
• Short to power between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal B and PCM terminal 2AS
• Short to ground between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal B and PCM terminal 2AS
• Open circuit between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal B and PCM terminal 2AS
• Poor connection at VIS shutter valve actuator or PCM
• PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
• Perform the DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE.
• Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent concern exists. Go to the INTERMITTENT CONCERN TROUBLESHOOTING procedure.
2
INSPECT VIS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR CONNECTOR FOR POOR CONNECTION
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Disconnect the VIS shutter valve actuator connector.
• Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged, pulled-out pins, and corrosion).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the terminal, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT VIS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR MALFUNCTION
• Perform the VIS shutter valve actuator inspection.
• Is the VIS shutter valve actuator normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the VIS shutter valve actuator, then go to Step 8.
4
INSPECT PCM CONNECTOR FOR POOR CONNECTION
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Disconnect the PCM connector.
• Inspect for poor connection at PCM terminals 2AS and 2AO. (such as damaged, pulled-out pins, and corrosion)
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair the terminal, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT VIS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
• Inspect for continuity between the following wiring harness-side terminals:
- Between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal A and PCM terminal 2AO
- Between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal B and PCM terminal 2AS
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for an open circuit, then go to Step 8.
6
INSPECT VIS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
• Inspect for continuity between the followings:
- Between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal A (wiring harness-side) and body ground
- Between VIS shutter valve actuator terminal B (wiring harness-side) and body ground
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace for a short to ground, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT VIS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Measure the voltage at the following wiring harness-side terminals:
- VIS shutter valve actuator terminal A
- VIS shutter valve actuator terminal B
• Are each terminal voltage B+?
Yes
Repair or replace for a short to power, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P0660 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. (Engine off).
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using WDS or equivalent.
• Perform the KOEO/KOER self-test.
• Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform the "AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE".
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
(See DTC TABLE.)
No
Troubleshooting completed.
