STEERING ANGLE SENSOR [WITH WU-TWC]

id0140007419d2

Function

• The steering angle sensor is built into the combination switch and detects the angle at which the steering is being operated, transmitting the signal to the PCM.

Structure/Operation

• Consists of a disc with a gap and slits that rotate together with the steering. This disc is inserted into the sensor unit with three pairs of phototransistors and LEDs arranged facing each other.
• As the disc rotates together with the steering, the light from the LED hitting the phototransistor changes. The phototransistor outputs an on signal when hit by light, and an off signal blocked. The PCM calculates the steering angle and operation speed based on the difference in output phase from sensors A and B.
