1

Security light remains on or does not illuminate.

DETECTION CONDITION

Malfunction in security light circuit

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• PCM malfunction
• Instrument cluster (print plate) malfunction
• Open or short to power supply in wiring harness between instrument cluster and PCM

Diagnostic Procedure

• When performing an asterisked (*) troubleshooting inspection, shake the wiring harness and connectors while doing the inspection to discover whether poor contact points are the cause of any intermittent malfunction. If there is a problem, check to make sure connectors, terminals and wiring harness are connected correctly and undamaged.

Step

Inspection

Action

1
INSPECT OTHER WARNING AND INDICATOR LIGHTS CIRCUIT IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
• Turn ignition switch to the ON position.
• Do other warning and indicator lights illuminate?
Yes
Turn ignition switch to the LOCK position, then go to the next step.
No
Inspect the instrument cluster power supply system and ground system, then go to Step 5.
2
INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
• Turn ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the negative battery cable.
• Disconnect the PCM connector.
• Connect the instrument cluster terminal 1G to ground using the jumper wire.
• Connect the negative battery cable.
• Turn ignition switch to the ON position.
• Does air bag system warning light illuminate?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the instrument cluster, then go to Step 4.
* 3
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PCM
• Turn ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the negative battery cable.
• Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
• Inspect the wiring harness between instrument cluster connector terminal 1G and PCM connector 1AG for the following:
- Short to ground
- Short to power supply
- Open circuit
• Is the wiring harness normal?
Yes
Replace the PCM and reprogram immobilizer system, then go to the next step.
No
Replace the wiring harness, then go to the next step.
4
CONFIRM THAT MALFUNCTION SYMPTOMS DO NOT RECUR AFTER REPAIR
• Turn ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the negative battery cable.
• Connect the instrument cluster connector.
• Connect the PCM connector.
• Connect the negative battery cable.
• Turn ignition switch to the ON position.
• Does security light operate properly?
Yes
Complete troubleshooting, then explain repairs to customer.
No
Recheck malfunction symptoms, then repeat from Step 1 if malfunction recurs.
