Does not shift to fourth gear (4GR)

DESCRIPTION

•  Vehicle does not upshift from 3GR to 4GR even though vehicle speed increased.

•  Vehicle does not shift to 4GR even though accelerator pedal is released in D range at 60 km/h {37 mph}.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

•  Basically, TCC does not operate when fail-safe is operating. Verify the DTCs first. If the TCC operates when driving at high speeds only, malfunction (improper adjustment) is in the HOLD switch circuit or TR switch circuit.

Caution

•  If the TCC is stuck, inspect it. In addition, inspect the oil cooler for foreign particles which may have mixed in with the ATF.

1.  Clutch or brake slipped, burned

•  Line pressure low

•  Accelerator pedal position sensor malfunction

•  Engine coolant temperature sensor malfunction

•  Vehicle speed sensor malfunction

•  Input/turbine speed sensor malfunction

•  Sensor GND malfunction

2.  TFT sensor malfunction

•  Short or open circuit in wiring

•  Poor connection of connector

•  Sensor malfunction

3.  TR switch malfunction

•  Short or open circuit in wiring

•  Poor connection of connector

•  Sensor malfunction

•  Selector cable adjustment incorrect

•  TR switch adjustment incorrect

4.  Shift solenoid A, shift solenoid B, shift solenoid D malfunction

•  Short or open circuit in wiring

•  Poor connection of connector

•  Solenoid valve stuck

5.  HOLD switch (built-in selector lever component) malfunction

6.  Control valve body malfunction

Note

•  Before following troubleshooting steps, make sure that Automatic Transaxle On-Board Diagnostic and Automatic Transaxle Basic Inspection are conducted.

Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	With ignition switch at ON, does HOLD indicator light indication correspond to HOLD switch operation?	Yes	Go to next step.
1		No	Go to No.26 “HOLD INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN HOLD SWITCH IS TURNED ON.”, No.27 “HOLD INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHEN HOLD SWITCH IS NOT TURNED ON.”
2	Check the value at the following PIDs using the M-MDS. (See PCM INSPECTION [MZR 1.3, MZR 1.5].) • TFT • TFTV Are PID values okay?	Yes	Go to next step.
2		No	Repair or replace any defective parts.
3	Check the value at the following PIDs using the M-MDS. (See PCM INSPECTION [MZR 1.3, MZR 1.5].) • SSA/SS1 • SSB/SS2 • SSC/SS3 Are PID values okay?	Yes	Overhaul control valve body and repair or replace any defective parts. If problem remains, overhaul transaxle and repair or replace any defective parts.
3		No	Go to next step.
4	Disconnect PCM connector. Is resistance between GND terminal at PCM connector and body GND less than 5.0 ohms?	Yes	Check the value at the following PIDs using the M-MDS. (See PCM INSPECTION [MZR 1.3, MZR 1.5].) • APP • ECT • TR • TSS • VSS Repair or replace any defective parts.
4		No	Repair open GND circuit. Reconnect PCM connector.
5	• Verify test results. ― If okay, return to diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. ― If malfunction remains, inspect related Service informations and perform repair or diagnosis. • If vehicle not repaired, trouble shooting completed. • If vehicle not repaired or additional diagnostic information not available, replace PCM.
