Towing Description

Proper lifting and towing are necessary to prevent damage to the vehicle. Particularly when towing an AWD vehicle, where all the wheels are connected to the drive train, proper transporting of the vehicle is absolutely essential to avoid damaging the drive system. Government and local laws must be followed.
Warning
•  If the vehicle is towed with the ignition switched a position other than ON (engine on), drive carefully. Braking power may be poor or the steering wheel may be heavy, making it difficult to drive, which could result in an accident.
•  Do not switch the ignition OFF while towing with a rope. If the ignition is switched OFF, the steering wheel will be locked and unable to be operated, which could result in an accident.
Caution
•  Tow the vehicle using the equipment according to the conditions to prevent vehicle damage.
•  Do not use the towing hook except if there is no equipment for towing or in an emergency (such as when the vehicle is stuck in a ditch or snow). If the towing hook must be used, always tow the vehicle with the rope attached to the front of the vehicle.
•  If the vehicle is towed using a rope, the foot brake of the vehicle being towed must be used extensively to maintain distance between the vehicles, which could cause the brakes to overheat and adversely affect brake performance. If the vehicle is towed continuously under this condition, it could collide with the vehicle ahead. Therefore, if the vehicle is to be towed down a long, descending slope, have it towed by a tow truck.
•  Do not drive the vehicle under a condition such as when significant strain is applied to the towing hook or rope during sudden acceleration.
•  For 2WD vehicles, tow the vehicle with the front wheels lifted. If the vehicle cannot be towed with the front wheels lifted, tow the vehicle with all four wheels lifted.
•  For AWD vehicles, tow the vehicle with all four wheels lifted. If the vehicle cannot be towed with all four wheels lifted, tow the vehicle with all four wheels on the ground.
•  Always handle and tow the vehicle in accordance with road traffic laws. When towing the vehicle using a rope, keep the vehicle speed at 30 km/h or less and the travel distance within 30 km. If the vehicle is towed at high speeds or for a long distance, it may adversely affect the transmission and cause damage.
•  Do not attach anything other than a rope to the towing hook.
