-
Warning
-
• A hot engine can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool before removing/installing each part.
• Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite and cause serious injury or death, and damage to equipment. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
• Highly pressurized fuel may spray out if the fuel line is cut. Due to the following dangers occurring with a fuel spray, always complete the [Fuel Line Safety Procedure] to prevent the fuel from spraying.
-
― Fuel may cause irritation if it comes in contact with skin and eyes.
― If fuel ignites and causes a fire, it may lead to serious injury or death, and damage to property and facilities.
1. Verify that the battery is in a completely charged condition. (See BATTERY INSPECTION [(E)].)
2. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
3. Warm up the engine.
4. Display the following PCM PID using the M-MDS data monitor function. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION.)(See PID/DATA MONITOR TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-X)].)
-
• RPM
5. Remove the fuel pump relay. (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
6. Open the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER OPEN/CLOSE [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
7. Remove the ignition coils. (See IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
8. Remove the spark plugs. (See SPARK PLUG REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
9. Measure the compression pressure using the following procedure.
- (1) Install the compression gauge to the spark plug hole.
-
- (2) Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
-
-
Note
-
• The cranking method is as follows.
MTX
-
― When the ignition switch is pressed with the clutch pedal depressed, cranking starts.
― When your foot is removed from the clutch pedal during cranking, cranking stops.
― When the ignition switch is pressed during cranking, cranking stops.
ATX
-
― When the ignition switch is pressed with the brake pedal depressed, cranking starts.
― When the ignition switch is pressed during cranking, cranking stops.
- (3) Crank the engine and measure the following values simultaneously.
-
-
• Compression pressure
• Engine speed
-
Compression pressure (Compression ratio of 15)
-
Standard: Refer to graph
Minimum: Refer to graph
Difference between cylinders: Within 152 kPa {1.55 kgf/cm2, 22.0 psi}[250 rpm]
-
Compression pressure (Compression ratio of 16.3)
-
Standard: Refer to graph
Minimum: Refer to graph
Difference between cylinders: Within 156 kPa {1.59 kgf/cm2, 22.6 psi}[250 rpm]
- (4) Perform Steps (1) to (3) for all cylinders.
-
- (5) If a measured value is less than the minimum specification, or the difference between cylinders exceeds the specified value, the following conditions could be present. Perform overhaul servicing.
-
-
• Wear or damage of piston ring and cylinder wall surface
-
• Valve seizure, valve attachment failure, or pressure leakage from cylinder head gasket
- (6) If a measured value is high, a malfunction in the electric variable valve timing system can be considered.
-
10. Remove the compression gauge.
11. Install the spark plugs. (See SPARK PLUG REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
12. Install the ignition coils. (See IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
13. Close the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER OPEN/CLOSE [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
14. Install the fuel pump relay. (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
