Purpose, Function
• Depending on the engine operation conditions, the engine coolant flow volume is adjusted by opening/closing the valve of the electric thermostat.
• If the engine coolant temperature is low, the electric thermostat stops the engine coolant flow between the engine and the radiator. As a result, the engine coolant circulates without passing through the radiator and engine warming is improved.
Construction
• The electric thermostat is installed to the water pump.
• The electric thermostat consists of the following parts.
Operation
• If the engine coolant temperature is low, engine warming is improved by closing the valve of the electric thermostat and stopping the engine coolant flow between the engine and the radiator.
• If the engine coolant temperature reaches 90 °C {194 °F} or more, the optimum engine coolant temperature is maintained by opening the valve of the electric thermostat and adjusting the engine coolant flow volume between the engine and the radiator.
