ACCELERATOR PEDAL, KICKDOWN SWITCH [SKYACTIV-G (WITH CYLINDER DEACTIVATION (E))]

Purpose, Function

Accelerator pedal
•  The accelerator pedal transmits the driver’s intentions to the PCM.
Kickdown switch
•  To prevent the driver from fully depressing the accelerator pedal by mistake, the kickdown switch causes vehicle shock (resistance) to occur while the accelerator pedal is being depressed to alert the driver that the accelerator pedal is at near 100% full-open throttle.

Construction

•  The accelerator pedal has a built-in accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor and kickdown switch.

•  For the APP sensor, refer to CONTROL SYSTEM. (See ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR [SKYACTIV-G (WITH CYLINDER DEACTIVATION (E))].)

Kickdown Switch

•  Resistance can be felt while the accelerator pedal is being depressed. The accelerator pedal opening angle reaches 100% by further depressing the pedal. This resistance is an approximate indication of the kickdown.

•  The driver can recognize the accelerator pedal depression amount (accelerator pedal opening angle) when depressing the accelerator pedal.
•  The kickdown switch is only an approximate indication of the kickdown. An electrical signal is not sent/received by turning the kickdown switch on/off.
