DTC Inspection

1.  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

2.  Perform the KOEO self test.

3.  Perform the DTC inspection using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  If any DTC related to the coolant control valve position sensor is present, repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-D)].)

Visual Inspection

Warning
•  A hot engine can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool before servicing.
•  If the cooling system cap or the water-cooled charge air cooler reserve tank cap is removed when the engine is hot, steam and boiling water may be injected, causing severe burns or severe injury. Perform the removal of the cooling system cap and water-cooled charge air cooler reserve tank cap when the engine is cool.
•  Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool. Even then, be very careful when removing the cap. Wrap a thick cloth around it and slowly turn it counterclockwise to the first stop. Step back while the pressure escapes.
•  When you are sure all the pressure is gone, press down on the cap using the cloth, turn it, and remove it.
Note
•  The coolant control valve position sensor is built into the coolant control valve. When replacing the coolant control valve position sensor, replace the coolant control valve.

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

2.  Remove the coolant control valve (See COOLANT CONTROL VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 1.8].)

3.  Verify that there is no damage to the coolant control valve, and no corrosion and damage to the connector.

•  If there is a malfunction, replace the coolant control valve. (See COOLANT CONTROL VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 1.8].)
