Outline
Troubleshooting item |
Tight corner braking effect |
---|---|
Description
• Brakes seem to be applied during tight cornering while driving very slowly on paved road.
Possible cause
• Because the coupling component locks up easily (similar to direct AWD), rotational difference between the front and rear wheels cannot be absorbed and brake-like phenomenon occurs.
• Due to the coupling component construction, slight tight corner braking effect occurs during tight cornering on a paved road. (AWD system is normal. Compare with another same model vehicle to determine malfunction.)
• Coupling component malfunction
• AWD solenoid malfunction

1
VERIFY DSC HU/CM, ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT, PCM, TCM, EPS CONTROL MODULE AND ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT (ESU) DTCs
• Verify DSC HU/CM, electronically controlled brake unit, PCM, TCM, EPS control module and electrical supply unit (ESU) DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION.)
• Are there any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to applicable DTC inspection.
(See DTC TABLE [DSC HU/CM (E)].)
(See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-X)].)
No
Go to the next step.

2
VERIFY TIRE PRESSURE
• Inspect tire pressure.
• Is it within specification?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Adjust tire pressure, then go to the next step.
3
INSPECT ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR
• Inspect ABS wheel-speed sensor.
• Is it normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
4
COMPARE WITH SAME MODEL VEHICLE
• Perform simulation driving with another same model vehicle.
• Does malfunction recur on the same model vehicle?
Yes
i-ACTIV AWD system is normal.
No
Go to the next step.
5
TRY TO REPRODUCE MALFUNCTION BY DRIVING VEHICLE WITH AWD SOLENOID CONNECTOR DISCONNECTED
• Switch the ignition off.
• Disconnect the AWD solenoid connector.
• Try to reproduce the malfunction by driving the vehicle.
• Does the malfunction recur?
Yes
Replace coupling component.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT AWD SOLENOID
• Inspect AWD solenoid.
(See AWD SOLENOID INSPECTION.)
• Is AWD solenoid normal?
Yes
Inspect harness between AWD solenoid and electrical supply unit (ESU), then go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification
VERIFY THAT MALFUNCTION SYMPTOMS DO NOT RECUR AFTER REPAIR
• Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
• Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Complete the symptom troubleshooting.
Explain to the customer what has been repaired.
No
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
