Warning
-
• Always end maintenance mode after performing the servicing in maintenance mode. Otherwise, driving the vehicle without ending maintenance mode could result in an accident.
-
Caution
-
• Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. Be careful not to spill any on painted surfaces. In addition, if there is any brake fluid on the wiring harness, the wire insulation may corrode causing a malfunction such as a short circuit. If brake fluid gets on a painted surface or wiring harness, wash and flush it off completely with water immediately.
• Do not empty the brake fluid in the following brake related parts. Otherwise, the electronically controlled brake unit could be damaged.
-
― Electronically controlled brake unit
-
― Brake fluid reserve tank
-
― Rear brake caliper
• A new rear brake caliper has been plugged sealing off the brake fluid. For this reason, remove the plug of the rear brake caliper directly before installing the rear brake caliper to the vehicle. Other than for this, do not remove the plug of the rear brake caliper.
• When disconnecting the brake hose from the rear brake caliper, always plug and seal the rear brake caliper so that brake fluid does not leak.
-
Note
-
• Keep the fluid level in the brake fluid reserve tank at 3/4 full or more during the brake fluid replacement.
• Replace the brake fluid from the brake caliper that is the nearest to the master cylinder.
• When switching to maintenance mode, the electronically controlled brake unit and the electric parking brake functions are canceled.
• When switching to maintenance mode, the clearance between the rear disc pad and the rear disc plate widens.
• When the maintenance mode is ended, the electric parking brake motor gear unit operating time is longer than normal due to the automatic adjustment of the electric parking brake.

• Do not empty the inside of the brake fluid reserve tank when performing brake fluid replacement. Always verify that the brake fluid is not empty while performing the procedure. Otherwise, it would be necessary to perform air bleeding of the brake fluid reserve tank.
6. Perform brake fluid replacement in the following order. (See Brake Fluid Replacement Note.)
- (1) Front part on driver’s side
-
- (2) Front part on passenger's side
-
- (3) Stroke simulator (Perform the following procedure 10 times)
-
- 1) Slowly depress the brake pedal.
-
- 2) Maintain this condition for 3 s or more.
-
- 3) Quickly release the brake pedal.
-
- 4) Maintain this condition for 3 s or more.
-
- (4) Clutch fluid (MTX)
-
- (5) Front part on driver’s side
-
- (6) Front part on passenger's side
-
- (7) Rear part on driver's side
-
- (8) Rear part on passenger's side
-
7. Refill the brake fluid reserve tank fluid level to MAX.
8. After air bleeding, inspect the following:
-
• Brake operation
• Fluid leakage
• Fluid level
Procedure Not Using M-MDS
1. Switch to the maintenance mode. (See MAINTENANCE MODE [(E)].)
2. Perform brake fluid replacement in the following order. (See Brake Fluid Replacement Note.)
- (1) Clutch fluid (MTX)
-
- (2) Front part on driver’s side
-
- (3) Front part on passenger's side
-
- (4) Rear part on driver's side
-
- (5) Rear part on passenger's side
-
3. End the maintenance mode. (See MAINTENANCE MODE [(E)].)
4. Refill the brake fluid reserve tank fluid level to MAX.
Brake Fluid Replacement Note
1. Remove the bleeder cap on the brake caliper, and attach a vinyl tube to the bleeder screw.
2. Place the other end of the vinyl tube in a clear container and fill the container with fluid during brake fluid replacement.
-
Note
-
• Replace the brake fluid from the brake pipe can be implemented quickly by slowly depressing the brake pedal.
3. Working with two people, one should pump the brake pedal strongly and quickly several times, and then depress and hold the pedal down.
4. While 1 technician depresses the brake pedal and another technician loosens the bleeder screw using a box-end wrench, drain any remaining fluid, and then retighten the bleeder screw.
5. Repeat the procedure from Steps 3 and 4 until new fluid comes out of the vinyl hose.
6. Perform brake fluid replacement as described in the above procedures for all brake calipers.
