•  Switch the ignition off and maintain this condition approx. 1 min.

•  Switch the ignition ON (engine on).

•  Using the M-MDS, perform the EPS control module DTC inspection.

•  Are any DTCs present?

Yes

Go to the applicable DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE [ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) (E)].)

No

Go to the next step.

VERIFY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATION CONDITION

•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

•  Does the EPS warning light/master warning light turn off?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Malfunction may be temporary.

VERIFY COMMUNICATION CONDITION BETWEEN EPS CONTROL MODULE AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)

•  Using the M-MDS, display the following PIDs for the body control module (BCM).
(See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION.)

―  EPAS_NETWORK

•  Is the EPAS_NETWORK PID value “Node Attached and Communicate correctly”?

Yes

Perform the body control module (BCM) configuration, then repeat the inspection from Step 1.

If the malfunction recurs, replace the instrument cluster.

(See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No

EPS control module malfunction.

Replace the EPS control module.

(See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

Perform the repair completion verification.

VERIFY THAT MALFUNCTION SYMPTOMS DO NOT RECUR AFTER REPAIR

•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.

•  Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?

Yes

Complete the symptom troubleshooting.

Explain to the customer what has been repaired.

No

Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.

(See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(E)].)

If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.

3	VERIFY COMMUNICATION CONDITION BETWEEN EPS CONTROL MODULE AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) • Using the M-MDS, display the following PIDs for the body control module (BCM). (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION.) ― EPAS_NETWORK • Is the EPAS_NETWORK PID value “Node Attached and Communicate correctly”?	Yes	Perform the body control module (BCM) configuration, then repeat the inspection from Step 1. If the malfunction recurs, replace the instrument cluster.
