Warning

•  Handling a seat equipped with a side air bag improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions in the Workshop Manual before handling a front seat equipped with a side air bag. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) •  If the sliding mechanisms on both sides are not locked after assembling the front seat, it may move unexpectedly while the vehicle is driven, which could result in serious injury. After assembling the front seat, try moving it back and forth to verify that the sliding mechanism on both sides are locked. (Manual seat)

Caution

•  After the front seat has been removed, if the slider lever is operated and the front seat is reinstalled with the left/right slide positions deviated, the adjuster unit could be damaged. After removing a front seat, do not operate the slider lever. (Manual seat)

•  Verify that there are no malfunctions in the forward/back slide of the seat and in the adjuster unit after installing a front seat.

•  When performing the procedure with a front seat removed from the vehicle, perform the procedure on a clean cloth so as not to damage or soil the seat.

Front Door Side

Power seat

1.  Slide the front seat forward.

2.  Remove the front seat belt lower anchor. (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Perform the following procedure. (Without Mazda M Hybrid)

(1)  Switch the ignition OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

4.  Perform the following procedure. (With Mazda M Hybrid, without seat warmer system)

(1)  Switch the ignition OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

5.  Perform the following procedure. (With Mazda M Hybrid, with seat warmer system)

(1)  Switch the ignition OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

(3)  Verify if the ground plate needs to be disconnected and if it does, disconnect it. (See GROUND PLATE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

6.  Pull the power seat switch knobs in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove them while detaching the tabs.

7.  Insert the remover tool into the positions shown in the figure.

8.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure to detach the reverse cover tab from the front seat side cover.

9.  Move the front seat side cover in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and remove it.

10.  Insert the remover tool into the positions shown in the figure.

11.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure to detach the reverse cover tab from the front seat side cover.

12.  Move the front seat side cover in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and detach the hook.

13.  Detach the hook at the position shown in the figure and press out in the direction of the arrow.

14.  Remove the clip at the position shown in the figure, and then remove the front seat back cover.

15.  Remove the power seat switch.

16.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

Manual Seat

1.  Slide the front seat forward.

2.  Remove the front seat belt lower anchor. (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Insert a fastener remover at the position shown in the figure and remove the clip in the direction of arrow (1). (8WAY seat)

4.  Remove the tilt dial in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure. (8WAY seat)

5.  Operate the lifter lever to lower the front seat. (6WAY seat, 8WAY seat)

6.  Pull up the lifter lever to the topmost position and pull the tab shown in the figure in the direction of arrow (1). (6WAY seat, 8WAY seat)

7.  Remove the lifter lever handle in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure. (6WAY seat, 8WAY seat)

8.  Insert the remover tool into the positions shown in the figure.

9.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure to detach the reverse cover tab from the front seat side cover.

10.  Move the front seat side cover in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and remove it.

11.  Insert the remover tool into the positions shown in the figure.

12.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure to detach the reverse cover tab from the front seat side cover.

13.  Move the front seat side cover in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and detach the hook.

14.  Detach the hooks at the positions shown in the figure and press out in the order of arrows (1) and (2).

15.  Remove the front seat side cover.

16.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

Center Console Side

Power seat

1.  Remove the front seat belt lower anchor. (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Remove the front seat installation bolts. (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

3.  Perform the following procedure. (Without Mazda M Hybrid)

(1)  Switch the ignition OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

4.  Perform the following procedure. (With Mazda M Hybrid and without seat warmer system)

(1)  Switch the ignition OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

5.  Perform the following procedure. (With Mazda M Hybrid and seat warmer system)

(1)  Switch the ignition OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

(3)  Verify if the ground plate needs to be disconnected and if it does, disconnect it. (See GROUND PLATE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

6.  Remove the front seat. (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

7.  Insert the remover tool into the positions shown in the figure.

8.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure to detach the reverse cover tab from the front seat side cover.

9.  Move the front seat side cover in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and remove it.

10.  Insert the remover tool into the positions shown in the figure.

11.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure to detach the reverse cover tab from the front seat side cover.

12.  Move the front seat side cover in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and detach the hook.

13.  Remove the screw at the position shown in the figure.

14.  Detach the hook at the position shown in the figure and press out in the direction of the arrow.

15.  Remove the front seat side cover.

16.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

Manual seat

1.  Remove the front seat belt lower anchor. (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Remove the front seat installation bolts. (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

3.  Perform the following procedure. (Without Mazda M Hybrid)

(1)  Switch the ignition OFF.

4.  Perform the following procedure. (With Mazda M Hybrid and without seat warmer system)

(1)  Switch the ignition OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

5.  Perform the following procedure. (With Mazda M Hybrid and seat warmer system)

(1)  Switch the ignition OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

(3)  Verify if the ground plate needs to be disconnected and if it does, disconnect it. (See GROUND PLATE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

6.  Remove the front seat. (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

7.  Insert the remover tool into the positions shown in the figure.

8.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure to detach the reverse cover tab from the front seat side cover.

9.  Move the front seat side cover in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and detach the hook.

10.  Insert the remover tool into the positions shown in the figure.

11.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure to detach the reverse cover tab from the front seat side cover.

12.  Move the front seat side cover in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and detach the hook.

13.  Detach the hooks at the positions shown in the figure and press out in the order of arrows (1) and (2).

14.  Remove the front seat side cover.

15.  Install in the reverse order of removal.
