AUTO LIGHT SYSTEM

id091800010500

Outline

•  The auto light system automatically turns the TNS (parking lights), headlight, and panel light on/off according to the illumination level above and in front of the vehicle.

Function

•  The BCM turns each light on/off based on the signal from the auto light sensor.
Note
•  Each light turns on/off as follows.

*1  :The light switch automatically returns to the AUTO position.
*2  :When the surrounding area is bright the running lights turn on, when the surrounding area is dark the headlights and TNS (parking lights) turn on.
*3  :When the surrounding area is bright the running lights and TNS (parking lights) turn on, when the surrounding area is dark the headlights and TNS (parking lights) turn on.
*4  :When the light switch is switched to OFF while the vehicle is stopped, all illuminated lights turn off. When the light switch is switched from a position other than TNS (parking lights) to the TNS (parking lights) position, the running lights or headlights turn off. The lights that were turned off turn on again when the vehicle starts to accelerate.

Auto wiper interlocking auto light function

•  When the BCM receives a windshield wiper LO or HI operation request signal for 15 s or more from the auto light sensor (rain sensor), it turns on the headlights and TNS (parking lights).

Operation

Note
•  When the ignition is switched ON (engine on or off), the auto light sensor detects the illumination level above and in front of the vehicle regardless of the light switch position.
•  The auto light system operates when the ignition is switched ON (engine on or off) and the light switch is in the AUTO position/TNS position.
•  The following illumination level is a reference. The illumination level varies depending on the surrounding conditions (weather, reflection off buildings).
•  The illumination level sensitivity of the auto light sensor can be changed. Refer to the [PERSONALIZATION FEATURES] in the workshop manual.

Headlight on operation

1.  The instrument cluster detects a light switch status signal (1).

2.  The instrument cluster sends the light switch status signal (2) to the body control module (BCM) via CAN communication.

3.  The auto light sensor determines (3) the headlight on/off from a change in the illumination level outside of the vehicle, and sends a headlight on request signal (4) to the body control module (BCM) via LIN communication.

4.  When the body control module (BCM) receives the light switch status signal (AUTO or TNS) and the headlight on request signal with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on), it turns the headlights LO or HI on (5). In addition, an auto-light on condition is set so that the headlights turn on at twilight.

Headlight off operation

1.  The instrument cluster detects a light switch status signal (1).

2.  The instrument cluster sends the light switch status signal (2) to the body control module (BCM) via CAN communication.

3.  The auto light sensor determines (3) the headlight on/off from a change in the illumination level outside of the vehicle, and sends a headlight off request signal (4) to the body control module (BCM) via LIN communication.

4.  When the body control module (BCM) receives the light switch status signal (AUTO or TNS) and the headlight off request signal with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on), it turns the headlights LO or HI off (5). In addition, to prevent the headlights from being frequently switched on/off, an auto-light on condition is set with the threshold of the illumination level for turning off set higher than the illumination level for turning on.

Auto wiper interlocking auto light operation

Note
•  For details on the auto wiper operation, refer to the [AUTO WIPER SYSTEM]. (See AUTO WIPER SYSTEM.)

1.  When the light switch and windshield wiper switch are operated to the AUTO position with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on), the instrument cluster detects (1) an auto light signal and an auto wiper signal.

2.  The instrument cluster sends (2) the auto light signal and an auto wiper signal to the BCM via CAN communication.

3.  The auto light sensor/rain sensor detects the rainfall amount from the auto wiper system, and sends (3) a windshield wiper LO or HI operation request signal to the BCM via LIN communication.

4.  When the BCM receives the windshield wiper LO or HI operation request signal for 15 s or more from the auto light sensor/rain sensor, it turns on (4) the TNS (parking lights) and headlights LO.
