Purpose

• The license plate lights shine light on the license plate during nighttime driving.

Function

• The ESU turns the license plate light on based on the TNS (parking lights) signal sent via CAN communication from the BCM.

Structure/Construction

• The license plate lights are installed to the rear bumper.

• LED has been adopted for the license plate light.

Operation

1. When the light switch is in the TNS position, the instrument cluster detects (1) a TNS signal.

2. The instrument cluster sends (2) the TNS signal to the body control module (BCM) via CAN communication.

3. The body control module (BCM) sends (3) a TNS on request signal to the electrical supply unit (ESU) via CAN communication.

4. When the electrical supply unit (ESU) receives the TNS on request signal, it turns the license plate light on (4).
