FUEL GAUGE
id092200032700
Purpose
• The fuel gauge notifies the driver of the fuel tank level.
Functions
• The body control module (BCM) calculates the fuel tank level in the fuel tank based on the following signals and sends a fuel gauge display position signal to the instrument cluster.
Signal name
|
Sending module/part name
|
Communication method
|
Fuel gauge sender unit voltage signal
|
Electrical supply unit (ESU)
|
CAN
|
Fuel injection amount signal
|
PCM
|
Vehicle speed signal
|
Electronically controlled brake unit
|
• The instrument cluster displays the fuel gauge needle based on the fuel gauge display position signal received from the body control module (BCM).
Refuel determination function
-
• If the fuel tank level changes by 5 L {1 US gal, 1 Imp gal}/2 L {0.5 US gal, 0.4 Imp gal}*1 (without multi-information display)/5 L {1 US gal, 1 Imp gal} (with multi-information display) or more while the vehicle is stopped, the instrument cluster determines that the vehicle is refueled and displays the fuel gauge digital needle based on the fuel gauge sender unit voltage signal from the ESU.
*1 :5 L {1 US gal, 1 Imp gal} when the number of fuel gauge segments is 13 or less/2 L {0.5 US gal, 0.4 Imp gal} when the number of fuel gauge segments is 14 or more
Structure/Construction
• The fuel gauge is displayed in the instrument cluster.
Operation
1. When the body control module (BCM) receives any of the following signals with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on), it calculates the fuel tank level (1).
-
• Fuel gauge sender unit voltage signal
• Fuel injection amount signal
• Vehicle speed signal
2. The body control module (BCM) sends (2) a fuel tank level signal to the instrument cluster based on the calculated fuel tank level.
3. The instrument cluster displays (3) the current fuel tank level based on the fuel tank level signal.
