Purpose, Function

•  An integrated starter generator (ISG) has been adopted for efficient electric power generation when the vehicle decelerates, engine start, and motor assist.
•  Generates electrical power of approx. 24 V according to the vehicle conditions, and charges the Mazda M Hybrid battery.
•  Has a drive function for the i-stop control (engine restart) and motor assist.

Construction, Operation

•  The integrated starter generator (ISG) is installed on the left, front side of the engine.

•  The integrated starter generator (ISG) output is controlled by the built-in inverter.
•  The inverter has the following protection functions.
1.  Excess temperature protection function
•  If the internal circuit reaches the specified temperature, the integrated starter generator (ISG) output is restricted to suppress an increase in the integrated starter generator (ISG) temperature.
2.  Excess voltage protection function
•  If excessive voltage output is commanded by the PCM, the integrated starter generator (ISG) output voltage is restricted to suppress application of excess voltage to the Mazda M Hybrid battery.
3.  Excess current protection function
•  If the current to each part of the integrated starter generator (ISG) exceeds the specified value, the current is interrupted to restrict or stop the integrated starter generator (ISG) output.
•  The initial excitation current to the rotors is supplied from the Mazda M Hybrid battery. When the excitation current is supplied from the Mazda M Hybrid battery and the integrated starter generator (ISG) begins power generation, and the power generated by the integrated starter generator (ISG) is used for excitation current.
