Outline

System malfunction location	Communication error with swivel actuator (LH)
Detection condition	•  The adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module cannot receive the signal from the swivel actuator (LH).
Fail-safe	•  The swivel actuator (LH) is moved to the center or stopped at the position when the malfunction is determined. •  The swivel actuator (RH) is moved to the center. •  Control of the headlight auto leveling system is continued with the headlight leveling actuator positioned −0.65° from where the malfunction is determined.
Possible cause	•  Front combination light (LH) connector or terminal malfunction •  Adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module connector or terminal malfunction •  Short to ground in swivel actuator (LH) LIN communication line •  Short to power supply in swivel actuator (LH) LIN communication line •  Open circuit in swivel actuator (LH) LIN communication line •  Swivel actuator (LH) malfunction •  Adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step	Inspection	Results	Action
1	INSPECT FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT (LH) CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION •  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal. (See CONNECTOR INSPECTION.) •  Are the connector and terminal normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
2	INSPECT ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM (AFS) CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION •  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal. (See CONNECTOR INSPECTION.) •  Are the connector and terminal normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
3	INSPECT SWIVEL ACTUATOR (LH) LIN COMMUNICATION LINE FOR SHORT TO GROUND •  Inspect the applicable circuit for a short to ground. (See CIRCUIT INSPECTION.) •  Is the circuit normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
4	INSPECT SWIVEL ACTUATOR (LH) LIN COMMUNICATION LINE FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY •  Inspect the applicable circuit for a short to power supply. (See CIRCUIT INSPECTION.) •  Is the circuit normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
5	INSPECT SWIVEL ACTUATOR (LH) LIN COMMUNICATION LINE FOR OPEN CIRCUIT •  Inspect the applicable circuit for open circuit. (See CIRCUIT INSPECTION.) •  Is the circuit normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
6	INSPECT SWIVEL ACTUATOR (LH) FOR MALFUNCTION DEPENDING ON REPEATABILITY •  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure. •  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC.) •  Perform the DTC inspection for the adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module. (See DTC INSPECTION.) •  Is the same Pending DTC present?	Yes	Replace the front combination light (LH) and perform the repair completion verification. (See FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
		No	Go to repair completion verification 2.
Repair completion verification 1	VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED •  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure. •  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC.) •  Perform the DTC inspection for the adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module. (See DTC INSPECTION.) •  Is the same Pending DTC present?	Yes	Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(E)].) If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1. •  If the malfunction recurs, replace the adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module, then go to the next step. (See ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM (AFS) CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
		No	Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2	VERIFY IF OTHER DTC IS DISPLAYED •  Perform the DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION.) •  Are any other DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
