Communication error with center display

Detection condition
When any of the following conditions is met.
•  The connectivity master unit (CMU) detects the same malfunction 3 times or more continuously from the following items during communication between the center display and connectivity master unit (CMU).
―  Connector connection malfunction
―  Open circuit in signal circuit
―  Center display malfunction
―  Connectivity master unit (CMU) malfunction
•  The connectivity master unit (CMU) detects that it cannot communicate with the center display 3 times or more continuously within the specified time.
•  The connectivity master unit (CMU) receives an error signal from the center display 3 times or more continuously within the specified time.
•  When the connectivity master unit (CMU) requests a center display status verification signal, it cannot receive it 3 times or more continuously.
Fail-safe
•  Image not output
Possible cause
•  Center display connector or terminal malfunction
•  Short to ground or open circuit in center display power supply circuit (B+)
•  Open circuit in center display ground circuit
•  Short to ground or open circuit in center display power supply circuit (ACC)
•  Malfunction in connectivity master unit (CMU) connector or terminal
•  Short to power supply, short to ground or open circuit in center display signal circuit
•  Center display signal circuit shield wire malfunction
•  Center display malfunction
•  Connectivity master unit (CMU) malfunction

VERIFY REPEATABILITY
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
(Refer to the [CLEARING DTC] in the workshop manual)
•  Switch the ignition OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off or on) and wait for 30 s or more.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the connectivity master unit (CMU).
(Refer to the [DTC INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to repair completion verification 2.

INSPECT CENTER DISPLAY CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
(Refer to the [CONNECTOR INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

VERIFY SUPPLY VOLTAGE TO CENTER DISPLAY
•  Measure the voltage at center display terminal 1H (vehicle wiring harness side).
•  Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Go to Step 5.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CENTER DISPLAY POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT (B+) FOR SHORT TO GROUND AND OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Inspect power supply circuit for short to ground and an open circuit.
(Refer to the [CIRCUIT INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT CENTER DISPLAY GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Inspect the applicable circuit for an open circuit.
(Refer to the [CIRCUIT INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

VERIFY CENTER DISPLAY ACC POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE
•  Switch the ignition to ACC.
•  Measure the voltage at center display terminal 1G (vehicle wiring harness side).
•  Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CENTER DISPLAY POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT (ACC) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Inspect the applicable circuit for a short to ground.
(Refer to the [CIRCUIT INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT CENTER DISPLAY POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT (ACC) FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Inspect the applicable circuit for an open circuit.
(Refer to the [CIRCUIT INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

VERIFY CONNECTIVITY MASTER UNIT (CMU) ACC POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE
•  Switch the ignition to ACC.
•  Measure the voltage at connectivity master unit (CMU) terminal 1S.
•  Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the connectivity master unit (CMU) and perform the repair completion verification.
(Refer to the [CONNECTIVITY MASTER UNIT (CMU) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION] in the workshop manual)

INSPECT CONNECTIVITY MASTER UNIT (CMU) CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
(Refer to the [CONNECTOR INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT CENTER DISPLAY SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Inspect the applicable circuit for a short to ground.

•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

•  Inspect the applicable circuit for a short to power supply.

•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

•  Inspect the applicable circuit for an open circuit.

•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT FOR CONTINUITY BETWEEN CENTER DISPLAY SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHIELD WIRE AND GROUND
•  Inspect the applicable circuit for continuity with the body ground.
(Refer to the [CIRCUIT INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

VERIFY CONNECTIVITY MASTER UNIT (CMU) DTCs
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
(Refer to the [CLEARING DTC] in the workshop manual)
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the connectivity master unit (CMU).
(Refer to the [DTC INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Are other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Replace the connectivity master unit (CMU) and perform the repair completion verification.

No
Replace the center display and perform the repair completion verification.
(Refer to the [CENTER DISPLAY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION] in the workshop manual)
Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
(Refer to the [CLEARING DTC] in the workshop manual)
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the connectivity master unit (CMU).
(Refer to the [DTC INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
(Refer to the [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW] in the workshop manual)
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the connectivity master unit (CMU), then go to the next step.

No
Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2
VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs ARE DISPLAYED
•  Perform the DTC inspection.
(Refer to the [DTC INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is a DTC displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
