System malfunction location

Communication error with DVD/CD player

Detection condition
•  The connectivity master unit (CMU) detects a communication interruption or communication error with the DVD/CD player for approx. 11 s.
Fail-safe
•  Reestablishes communication a specified number of times.
Possible cause
•  DVD/CD player connector or terminal malfunction
•  Short to ground or open circuit in DVD/CD player power supply circuit (+B)
•  Open circuit in DVD/CD player ground circuit
•  Short to ground or open circuit in DVD/CD player power supply circuit (ACC)
•  Connectivity master unit (CMU) connector or terminal malfunction
•  Short to ground in circuits between the following connectivity master unit (CMU) and DVD/CD player, short to power supply or open circuit
―  Power supply circuit (USB)
―  Signal circuit
―  Ground circuit
•  Malfunction in shielding wire of circuits between connectivity master unit (CMU) and DVD/CD player
•  DVD/CD player malfunction
•  Connectivity master unit (CMU) malfunction

VERIFY REPEATABILITY
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.

•  Switch the ignition OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off or on) and wait for 30 s or more.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the connectivity master unit (CMU).
(Refer to the [DTC INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to repair completion verification 2.
2
INSPECT DVD/CD PLAYER CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
(Refer to the [CONNECTOR INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

VERIFY SUPPLY VOLTAGE TO DVD/CD PLAYER
•  Measure the voltage at DVD/CD player terminal 1A (vehicle wiring harness side).
•  Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Go to Step 5.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT DVD/CD PLAYER POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT (+B) FOR SHORT TO GROUND AND OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Inspect the power supply circuit for a short to ground and open circuit.
(Refer to the [CIRCUIT INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT DVD/CD PLAYER GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Inspect the applicable circuit for an open circuit.
(Refer to the [CIRCUIT INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

VERIFY DVD/CD PLAYER ACC POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE
•  Switch the ignition to ACC.
•  Measure the voltage at DVD/CD player terminal 1B (vehicle wiring harness side).
•  Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Replace the DVD/CD player and perform the repair completion verification.
(Refer to the [DVD/CD PLAYER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION] in the workshop manual)
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT DVD/CD PLAYER POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT (ACC) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Inspect the applicable circuit for a short to ground.
(Refer to the [CIRCUIT INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT DVD/CD PLAYER POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT (ACC) FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Inspect the applicable circuit for an open circuit.
(Refer to the [CIRCUIT INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

VERIFY CONNECTIVITY MASTER UNIT (CMU) ACC POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE
•  Switch the ignition to ACC.
•  Measure the voltage at connectivity master unit (CMU) terminal 1S.
•  Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the connectivity master unit (CMU) and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT CONNECTIVITY MASTER UNIT (CMU) CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.

•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT CIRCUIT BETWEEN CONNECTIVITY MASTER UNIT (CMU) AND DVD/CD PLAYER FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Inspect the applicable circuit for a short to ground.

•  Is the circuit normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

Yes

No

•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.

•  Are other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Replace the connectivity master unit (CMU) and perform the repair completion verification.

No
Replace the DVD/CD player and perform the repair completion verification.
(Refer to the [DVD/CD PLAYER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION] in the workshop manual)
Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
(Refer to the [CLEARING DTC] in the workshop manual)
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the connectivity master unit (CMU).
(Refer to the [DTC INSPECTION] in the workshop manual)
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Refer to the CAN (controller area network) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
(Refer to the [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction has not been resolved, replace the connectivity master unit (CMU), then go to the next step.

No
Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2
VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs ARE DISPLAYED
•  Perform the DTC inspection.

•  Are other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
