DTC P0692

Cooling fan control circuit high

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors the cooling fan control signal circuit at PCM terminal 318. If the PCM detects that short to power supply in cooling fan control signal circuit for 1 s, the PCM determines that there is a cooling fan control circuit problem.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Fan control module connector or terminal malfunction
•  PCM connector or terminal malfunction
•  Short to power supply in the wiring harness between fan control module terminal 1C and PCM terminal 318
•  Fan control module malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•  Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY

5
INSPECT THROTTLE VALVE CONTROL AND FEEDBACK SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY
•  Reconnect the battery negative terminal.
•  Fan control module and PCM connectors are disconnected.
•  Switch the ignition to ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at fan control module terminal 1C (wiring harness-side).
•  Is there any voltage?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to power supply, then go to the next step.
No
Replace the coolong fan component, then go to the next step.
6
VERIFY THAT DTC P0692 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM.
Go to the next step.
