FOREWORD [MZR 2.0 DISI i-stop]

id0103d3800300

•  When the customer reports a vehicle malfunction, check the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) indication and diagnostic trouble code (DTC), then diagnose the malfunction according to the following flowchart:
―  If a DTC exists, diagnose the applicable DTC inspection. (See DTC TABLE [MZR 2.0 DISI i-stop].)
―  If no DTC exists and the MIL does not illuminate or flash, diagnose the applicable symptom troubleshooting. (See QUICK DIAGNOSTIC CHART [MZR 2.0 DISI i-stop].)

•  The i-stop system is programmed to not function (stop or restart engine) while the bonnet is open, however, when performing servicing in the engine compartment be careful so as to prevent getting caught in a rotating part if the engine were too restart accidentally.
•  When performing an asterisked (*) troubleshooting inspection, shake the applicable part, wiring harness, and connector by hand to discover whether poor contact points are the cause of any intermittent malfunction. If there is a problem, inspect to make sure connectors, terminals and wiring harnesses are connected correctly and undamaged, and repair or replace if necessary.
•  Depending on the vehicle operation status and the conditions indicated in the table below, the engine may not stop or it may restart for a condition unrelated to driving operations (system is normal).

Occurrence

i-stop non-operation reason

Vehicle condition

i-stop function does not operate
Safety prerequisites before system operates
•  Battery charge is insufficient
•  Defroster operates in auto or manual mode (priority to ensure forward visibility)
•  Driver-side temperature setting is set at MAX HOT or MAX COLD
•  Driver door is open
•  Driver seat belt is unfastened
•  Bonnet is open
•  Engine coolant temperature is low
•  ATF temperature is not within specification (ATX)
•  Vacuum in power brake unit is less than specified value
•  Brake pedal depression force is low*5
•  Accelerator pedal is depressed (stopped by brake operation with left foot)*7
•  Keyless entry system does not recognize that transmitter is in vehicle
•  Engine is started using auxiliary key (engine started by transponder authorization in auxiliary key)
•  In M-range (ATX)*6
•  Inclination angle of road exceeds specification (ATX)
Assurance of vehicle operability (such as when parking vehicle)
•  Steering wheel operation speed exceeds specification
•  Steering wheel angle is not within specification (ATX)
•  Vehicle speed after engine start is not 4 km/h {2 mph} or more
Engine-restart cannot be assured
•  Malfunction in engine control system (MIL illuminates)
•  PCM backup power supply is interrupted (battery replacement, battery terminal disconnection, reprogramming)*4
•  Number of times i-stop function operates exceeds assured operation amount of components
•  Battery fluid temperature is not within specification
•  Intake air temperature is 100 °C {212 °F} or more
•  Ambient temperature is less than −10 °C {14 °F}
•  Ambient temperature is 50 °C {122 °F} or more
•  Elevation is 1,500 m {4,921 ft} or more
Assures reliability
•  Within 8 s of restarting engine from i-stop off condition*8
Engine does not restart*2
Safety prerequisites before system operates
•  Any of following conditions occurs after i-stop function operates:
―  Door is opened with driver’s seat belt is unfastened
―  Bonnet is opened
•  Driver is performing engine-restart with clutch pedal is depressed 3 times or more quickly (MTX)
Engine restarts even though no attempt made to drive vehicle
Safety prerequisites before system operates
•  Vacuum in power brake unit is less than specified value
•  Vehicle moves on inclined road surface
•  Battery positive voltage decreases (to prevent engine not restarting due to discharged battery)*3
•  Defroster operates (priority to ensure forward visibility)
•  Accelerator pedal is depressed (stopped by brake operation with left foot)*7
•  Keyless entry system does not recognize that transmitter is in vehicle after recognizing door is opened
•  Driving range is switched (ATX) (D→R, D→M*9)
Assurance of accessories operation
•  A/C set temperature differs considerably from cabin temperature*3
•  A/C settings (temperature, mode) are changed via panel switch operation*3
Assures reliability
•  Electric AT oil pump operation time exceeds specified time (120 s) (ATX)

*1  :Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), Generator Warning Light, Security Light
*2  :Normal engine-start is performed (operating push button start) to restart engine.
*3  :Engine restarts after i-stop indicator light (green) flashes.
*4  :i-stop function operates after PCM completes ISC learning and battery is fully charged.
*5  :The i-stop indicator light (green) flashes (i-stop indicator light (green) is illuminated and i-stop function is operated by increasing brake pedal depression).
*6  :i-stop function is operating in D range in direct mode.
*7  :The brake override system operates (PCM DTC P2299:00 is detected).
*8  :Assures electric AT oil pump driver reliability.
*9  :i-stop function operation continues when shifting from D range to N or P position, however, the engine restarts when shifting from N or P position to D or R range.
