COMPRESSION INSPECTION [MZR-CD 2.2]

Warning
•  When the engine and the oil are hot, they can badly burn. Be careful not to burn yourself during removal/installation of each component.
•  If the glow plug harness connector is connected, the glow plug harness and engine component can come into contact and cause a short when the ignition switch is ON. Disconnect the glow plug harness connector before turning the ignition switch on.

1.  Verify that the battery is fully charged. (See BATTERY INSPECTION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

•  Recharge it if necessary. (See BATTERY RECHARGING [MZR-CD 2.2].)

2.  Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature.

3.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

4.  Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

5.  Disconnect the following parts.

•  Fuel injector connector
•  Fuel pressure sensor connector
•  Boost sensor connector

6.  Remove the boost sensor and vacuum hose. (See COMMON RAIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

7.  Remove the EGR cooler bypass valve control solenoid valve bracket No.1. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

8.  Remove all the glow plugs. (See GLOW PLUG REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

9.  Install the SST (49 S013 102A) to the glow plug hole securely.

10.  Connect the SST (49 S010 1A0A) to SST (49 S013 102A).

11.  Connect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

12.  Fully depress the accelerator pedal and crank the engine.

13.  Inspect each cylinder as above.

Compression pressure
Standard: 2,800 kPa {28.55 kgf/cm2, 406.1 psi}[250 rpm]
Minimum: 2,700 kPa {27.53 kgf/cm2, 391.6 psi}[250 rpm]
Maximum difference between cylinders: 300 kPa {3.06 kgf/cm2, 43.5 psi}
•  If the compression in one or more cylinders is low, pour a small amount of clean engine oil into the cylinder and reinspect the compression.
―  If the compression increases, the piston, the piston rings, or cylinder wall may be worn and overhaul is required.
―  If the compression stays low, a valve may be stuck or improperly seated and overhaul is required.
―  If the compression in adjacent cylinders stays low, the cylinder head gasket may be damaged or the cylinder head may be distorted and overhaul is required.

14.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

15.  Remove the SSTs.

16.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

17.  Clear the DTC from PCM memory using the M-MDS. (See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE [MZR-CD 2.2].)
