CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR INSPECTION [LF, L5]

Visual Inspection

1.  Remove the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L5].)

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3.  Remove the plug hole plate.(See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L5].)

4.  Disconnect the CMP sensor connector.

5.  Remove the CMP sensor. (See CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L5].)

6.  Verify that there are no metal shavings on the CMP sensor.

•  Remove any metal shavings that are adhering.

Voltage Inspection

1.  Idle the engine.

2.  Measure the CMP sensor output wave pattern using an oscilloscope. (See PCM INSPECTION [LF, L5])

•  If not within the specification, replace the CMP sensor. (See CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L5].)
