1.  If the vehicle is hit from the rear, impact that would otherwise be applied to the driver or front passenger is captured by the lower area of the seat back.(in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure)

2.  The active frame tilts forward on the pivot point.(in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure)

3.  After the impact force has subsided, the active frame returns to its original position via the pivot point by spring force.(in the direction of arrow (3) shown in the figure)
